Schedule makers did not do Cori (Coco) Gauff any favors with this second-round matchup, as she faces a former Grand Slam champion (2021 US Open winner), Emma Raducanu, in the second round. Despite falling to No. 77 in the world rankings, Raducanu is a dangerous opponent who loves the hard court, as her 8-2 combined records at the Australian Open and US Open suggest. However, Raducanu left the court at Auckland in her previous tournament with an ankle injury and bemoaned the slippery conditions. Raducanu got out of the gates slowly in her first-round match against Linda Fruhvirtova, losing the first set 4-6, before recovering to lose just six games in the final two sets combined.
Gauff is 15-0 in her previous 15 WTA Second Round matches and has won the first set in each of her last 17 such matches. However, unlike Fruhvirtova, the more seasoned Gauff will close this match out quickly if she gets up one set to none against Raducanu.

Stefanos Tsistipas seemingly flew under the radar leading into the Australian Open, as he was not given as much of a chance by the experts as the other high seeds. The Greek needed a third-set tiebreak to finish off Quentin Halys in the first round but won a tidy straight-set match.
Tsitsipas is a heavy -2000 moneyline favorite to advance, which makes his -170 odds to win in straight sets look even more enticing. He has won each of his previous ten Grand Slam Second Round matches and has lost only one of the last 33 first sets in ATP Second Round matches against right-handed opponents. Hijikata did take a set off World No. 22 Denis Shapovalov at Adelaide leading up to this Grand Slam, but Tsitsipas should pose many different problems.
