USA vs. Netherlands Picks, Odds, Lineups For the 2023 Women's World Cup Group E

USA vs. Netherlands Start Time, Where to Watch, and Odds

  • Date: Wednesday, July 26, 2023
  • Start Time: 9:00 pm ET
  • Where to Watch: FOX

The United States didn't click in their opening match against Vietnam, despite earning a 3-0 win over Vietnam in their opening match in the World Cup.

The United States had 28 shots and seven shots on goal. Meanwhile, Vietnam had no shots at all. Vietnam never had a chance, but the expectations were for the US to earn more goals. They had their chances but didn't execute at a high level.

They can't make those same mistakes against a World Cup contender like the Netherlands. The Netherlands also won their first match in Group E with a 1-0 win over Portugal. The Netherlands added a goal early in the first half and held onto the lead throughout the rest of the match.

Like the USA, the Netherlands controlled most of the game. They had 12 shots but only one goal to show for it.

Let's look at the betting odds for Wednesday's anticipated matchup between the USA and Netherlands.

USA vs. Netherlands Odds and Betting Data

ResultOddsImplied Chance
United States Win-14559.18%
Draw+26527.40%
Netherlands Win+42519.05%

This will be the most formidable challenge for the United States in the Group Stage. It will only be the second time the USA has faced off against the Netherlands in the World Cup.

The other time was when the USA defeated the Netherlands 2-0 in the 2019 World Cup Final.

USA vs. Netherlands Prediction

The Netherlands has gone winless against the USA in their last nine meetings. The USA scored at least two goals in eight of those nine games. The USA added 28 goals total in those nine games.

But it was apparent that the USA was out of sync. They had chances and didn't excuse themselves on the offensive end. Alex Morgan couldn't even get a good look on a penalty shot.

The United States probably can't play any worse than they did against Vietnam. They'll have to show up, knowing this game is likely for the top spot in Group E.

The top two teams from each group will play in the quarterfinals of the World Cup. The team that finishes second in the group stage will have a much more difficult road to a World Cup Championship.

The Netherlands has had no luck against the USA over the years. I'm sure the chemistry between the USA will improve heading into this one. They know what they need to fix.

USA vs. Netherlands Projected Lineup

USA projected starting lineup (4-3-3 (from right to left): Naeher (GK) - Fox, Ertz, Girma, Dunn - DeMelo, Sullivan, Horan - Rodman, Morgan, Smith.

Netherlands projected starting lineup (3-1-4-2 (from right to left): van Domselaar (GK) - Spitse, van Der Gragt, Janssen - Groenen - Pelova, Roord, Van de Donk, Brugts - Beerensteyn, Martens.

USA vs. Netherlands World Cup Odds

The USA is still at the top of the World Cup odds, with a +250 price tag to win the entire World Cup.

Meanwhile, the Netherlands are +2500 to win the entire World Cup, which still gives them a top-ten chance at earning it.

Oddsmakers are considering the fact that the Netherlands will have to play the USA. If the Netherlands lose to the USA, they'll have a challenging road to the World Cup Final as the second team out of Group E.
