England vs. Nigeria Picks, Odds, Lineups For the 2023 Women's World Cup Round of 16

England vs. Nigeria Start Time, Where to Watch, and Odds

  • Date: Monday, August 7, 2023
  • Start Time: 3:30 am ET
  • Where to Watch: FS1

The England National Team looked its best against China to finish off their group stage. England earned a 6-1 victory after two lower-scoring games to begin the World Cup.

Lauren James added two goals to help push England passed China. Now they've got all the momentum heading into the Round of 16 against Nigeria.

Nigeria tied Canada, defeated Australia, and tied Ireland. They haven't been beaten in the World Cup yet. However, Nigeria didn't score in two of their three matches. They'll likely put up another goose egg against England on Monday.

Here's a look at the odds and betting data for England vs. Nigeria Round 16 matchup.

England vs. Nigeria Odds and Betting Data

ResultOddsImplied Chance
England Win-38079.17%
Draw+45018.18%
Nigeria Win+90010%

There has to be a winner in the Round of 16.

However, these odds are for regulation time only. You'd lose this bet if you select England at -380 and the match goes into overtime.

You can look at other markets if you want to avoid losing an England bet if the game heads into overtime.

England is -750 to advance and -1400 to win (Draw No Bet).

You'll win at -750 as long as England moves into the quarterfinals. On the other hand, if you bet England -1400, you'd need England to still win in regulation. However, if the game were to go into overtime, this bet would be void, and you'd get your money back, unlike the -380 bet above.

England vs. Nigeria Prediction

It hasn't been the prettiest World Cup for England. But they've won all three games to start their World Cup journey.

The first couple of games were low-scoring snoozers. However, England added six goals against China in their most recent game. They showed some urgency and improved dramatically since the beginning of the World Cup.

Nigeria held on to a 0-0 draw against Canada in the first game, despite losing the possession battle 68%-33%. Meanwhile, Canada took 16 shots on Nigeria in that game and came up empty-handed. If Lauren James and England get 16 shots on Nigeria, they'll likely come away with multiple goals.

Meanwhile, Nigeria defeated Australia, despite losing the possession battle, 64%-36%. Australia had 28 shots to Nigeria's 11, but Nigeria won 3-2.

And finally, against Ireland, Nigeria lost the possession battle 60-40%, but Ireland barely got any shots on goal.

Anyway, here's what I'm getting at. England should dominate possession and have the talent to put the ball on the net and score some goals. I'll take England -1.5 at -110. That means England needs to win this game by two or more goals.

England vs. Nigeria Projected Lineups

England projected starting lineup 3-4-1-2 ( from right to left ): Earps (GK) - Carter, Bright, Greenwood - Bronze, Stanway, Zelem, Daly - James - Russo, Hemp.

Nigeria projected starting lineup 4-2-3-1 ( from right to left ): (GK) - Nnadozie - Alozie, Ohale, Demehin, Plumptre - Ucheibe, Ayinde - Ajibade, Payne, Kanu - Oshoala.

England vs. Nigeria World Cup Odds

England's road into the quarterfinals is pretty straightforward. They're starting to click as a team, and now oddsmakers have taken notice. England is tied with Spain at +300 to win this year's World Cup.

England has surpassed the USA heading into the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, Nigeria is sitting at +10000. It's super unlikely that Nigeria will defeat England. Even if they did upset England, they'd have to get through so much strenuous competition. Oddsmakers don't like their chances at all.
