With March Madness coming to a close earlier this week, all eyes of the sports world have turned to golf. It's a special time of year where the Masters takes center stage, and brings a calming aura to a chaotic spring sports scene.

The world's No. 1 golfer has all of the pressure on his shoulders, as expectant father Scottie Scheffler looks to live up to the hype with the best odds to win the 2024 Masters. He has been on a tear lately, winning two of his last three tournaments. Now that he is overcoming his previous putting woes, Scheffler is primed to display his greatness on the biggest stage, and oddsmakers aren't sure if anyone can stop him but himself.

Scheffler is primed to dominate with extremely short +400 odds to win it all, more than double the chance of his closest competitor. Will he be able to hold off a charge from defending champion Jon Rahm or a hopeful Rory McIlroy?

The popular bets aren't too worried, with Scheffler receiving the most wagers of any golfer, a rarity for the player with the shortest odds and seemingly lack of value. Let's take a look at the rest of the most popular golfers to win the 2024 Masters, and see if anyone has a chance to upset the best golfer in the world.

No one is surprised to see Scheffler at the top of the Masters odds table, but the unexpected part is the gap he wields between the next competitors. He has more than double the chance to win than the second and third best players in the world, with Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm all the way back at +1000 or more.

Scheffler's +400 odds give him an implied chance to win of 20%, an incredibly short line for an 89-golfer field at a course as challenging as Augusta National.

Rory has never been able to fully get the job done at the Masters, but still arrives with the second-best odds once again. His best finish was second in 2022, and he also had the historic Sunday meltdown now 13 years ago.

Right next to him, Jon Rahm will look to defend his title with slowly increasing +1100 odds. He was +900 when he won it all last year, using a strong performance on Sunday to unseat a faltering Brooks Koepka. He has about an 8% chance to repeat as champion, but will need everything to go right in order to hold off Scheffler's red-hot clubs.

While the odds are important, what people really want to know is where the money is being placed. When evaluating the most popular picks for the 2024 Masters, it shouldn't be a shock to see Scheffler sitting at the top spot to go along with his best odds.

While +400 is a tough price to justify a win in a major tournament, it's a testament to how dominant he's been in 2024. Scheffler is receiving 6.8% of the total bets, making him the most bet player in the field so far.

However, the best odds don't always correspond to the most wagers. Rory McIlroy does follow closely behind with 5.6% of the bets, but Jon Rahm is nowhere to be found on the popular bets leaderboard. Instead, Hideki Matsuyama has leapt to second-most popular golfer, receiving 6.73% of the bets and nearly eclipsing Scheffler. Matsuyama has +2000 odds to win it all, and could make some noise leading up to Sunday.

Brooks Koepka is also one to watch, as the LIV golf star has 3.76% of the bets on him to win with similar +2000 odds. He was just one round from victory last year before collapsing down the stretch on Sunday. He held a two-stroke lead over Rahm that morning, but couldn't quite hold off the former world No. 1.

Lastly, the up-and-coming superstar generating a lot of interest is of course Ludvig Aberg. The 24-year-old Swedish youngster has only been pro for less than a year, and is already the fourth-most popular pick at the Masters in his debut appearance. He is garnering 4.1% of the bets in his very first attempt, and sits with the ninth-best odds at +3300.

It remains to be seen if one of the popular picks will bring home the green jacket. Last year, Rahm wasn't anywhere near the most bet player, but he did have the best odds, and the sportsbooks were accurate in the end. This year, Scheffler has the added wrinkle of the most popular and best odds, so fans will be excited to see if he can live up to the hype and lofty expectations.
