Viktor Hovland 2024 US Open Odds, Betting Preview and Predictions

Viktor Hovland's finishes in 2024 have been a far cry from his success as the 2023 FedExCup champion on the PGA Tour. The Norwegian golfer is still an ascending talent, but reuniting with his swing coach elevated Hovland to a T3 finish at the PGA Championship last month.

A brutal finish at Muirfield Village has given bettors good value on Hovland in the outright winner betting market this week, with odds as long as 20-1. He's an excellent ball-striker and very powerful off-the-tee, so his debut at Pinehurst No. 2 could wind up being a big success.

PGA handicapper Matt MacKay is here to break down the latest betting odds across several markets for Viktor Hovland ahead of the 2024 U.S. Open.

VIKTOR HOVLAND US OPEN ODDS: WINNER +2000 (Bet $100 to collect $2000)

Numerous sportsbooks have Hovland available in the outright winner market at +2000. These include FanDuel, BetMGM, and DraftKings.

Hovland ranks 28th strokes gained: approaching the green and 10th strokes gained: off-the-tee. His putting tends to be shaky, which is concerning, but when he pieces it all together, there are few in any field that can keep up with Hovland's power and precision.

A 0.10 unit wager yields two units of profit, which is enough to enjoy a strong outing from Hovland at a lengthy par 70 course such as Pinehurst No. 2.

VIKTOR HOVLAND US OPEN ODDS: TOP 5 FINISH +400 (Bet $100 to collect $325)

Hovland's finishes at five previous U.S. Open events have been solid but not good enough to record a top-five finish yet. He recorded a T19 finish at even par during the 2023 U.S. Open at L.A. Country Club, bouncing back from his only missed cut at this major in 2022.

+400 seems too short for a top-five finish to be honest. Hovland's either going to contend for the outright win at 20-1, or fall short in a big way. He did withdraw from Torrey Pines after shooting an opening round 74 in 2021, while recording finishes of T12 and T13 at this major in 2019 and 2020.

He did manage to record a third-place finish at the PGA Championship last month but it was his first time making the top-ten at any event this season. It all depends how he responds from a dreadful finish at Muirfield, which saw him in contention through the first two rounds.

VIKTOR HOVLAND US OPEN ODDS: TOP 10 FINISH +200 (Bet $100 to collect $300)

At 2-1 odds for a top-ten finish, Hovland is getting the same value as Bryson DeChambeau by oddsmakers at FanDuel.

This doesn't feel lucrative enough to invest in, especially with the unraveling we saw at Muirfield less than a week ago. Sure, Hovland could bounce back from it, but he's going to need to stay sharp off-the-tee and on approach to avoid nasty lies in wire grass and other sandy surfaces.

Hovland has never recorded a top-ten finish at the U.S. Open in five appearances, which include a missed cut and a withdrawal after finishing Round 1 over par. Yes, he's played well in the other three U.S. Open events, but not good enough to wind up inside of the top-ten on the final leaderboard.

A top-five finish is twice as profitable and we've already seen Hovland do it at Valhalla. However, that was a birdie-fest in comparison to what projects to be a much more difficult test at Pinehurst No. 2 this week. It's best to stay away from Hovland at this short of a price to record only his second top-ten finish in 2024.
