Colombia vs. Jamaica Prediction
Let’s not bury the lead; I’m a big fan of this Jamaica squad. They were presented with one of the toughest groups in the tournament and absolutely dominated on the defensive side of the ball. They haven’t conceded a goal this tournament, but that’s against experienced heavy hitters like Brazil and France, who both had team teams set at 2+.
A part of Jamaica’s success has been their outstanding goalie, Rebecca Spencer. No goals allowed is obviously impressive, but she truly excelled under immense pressure. In the Brazil matchup, she had eight saves in the second half, where Brazil dominated time of possession with shot after shot. If your book has saves props, then I would be all over them, but I’m only seeing it on fantasy sites right now.
The problem with backing Jamaica is that Colombia's defense has also been really impressive this tournament. Jamaica is a counter-punch team; they are gonna sit back and let Colombia dominate time of possession and will look to take advantage of counter opportunities. That’s very interesting for a Colombia team that is much stronger on the defensive side than the offensive side. I’m not sure they have enough talent to take advantage of this Jamaica defense that has been battle tested by much stronger offenses.
I actually like this Colombia team and would likely be backing them in a better matchup. I have no faith in them to score and haven’t been very impressed by the talent on offense. I think if either side scores in regulation, it’s Jamaica, especially after getting their leading scorer Khadija Shaw back in the lineup. That being said, I don't think either team has much potential to score in bunches.
Shaw and Ramirez are the two players I like for shots props purely based on volume. Shaw has the offense flow through her, so even when they don't dominate possession, she will get her chances. Ramirez has ten shots thus far, despite not scoring yet. I think she benefits a lot from the increased time of possession, as she's shown a willingness to take them from both inside and outside the box. Shaw has two and three shots this tournament, while Ramirez has 3+ in all three, including against a tough German squad.
I feel very similar to this game as I did to the USA vs. Sweden matchup. I will be playing very similar bets, sprinkling on the full game draw and 0-0 final score. I'm not sure who pulls it off in extra time, but I will be sprinkling “Jamaica to win to nil” at +475 to get a little exposure there. I think the sportsbooks mispriced the unders on this game, and I'm looking to take advantage.
