Australia vs Republic of Ireland Best Bet: Can Sam Kerr Shine In Opening Group Game of 2023 Women's World Cup?

Today is the first of many World Cups bets in this series. When looking at the slate, there is an obvious person that sticks out in the goal-scoring market. Because this is a market lacking a lot of information, we should be able to take advantage of good pricing, especially in the prop market!

Australia vs. Republic of Ireland Prediction

I think this price is one of the first examples of the oddsmakers not having any clue what’s going on here. We get Australia in their debut match, in front of a home crowd, with a chance to break out of this tournament in style.

For this bet, We are getting arguably the best striker in the world at a -115 for a goal. She scored five times in four games during the last World Cup, and we’ve only seen improvement since then. It's very interesting to see a modest price here compared to some of the other big-name players in the tournament, with similar team totals (2.5 +140).

Kerr is only 29 years old, yet she is the NWSL’s all-time leading goal scorer. Additionally, she is the only female player to have won the Golden Boot in three different leagues (on three different continents). Obviously, Australia has the talent advantage in this matchup, given the -330 price tag over Ireland, but there is clearly no concern about the level of competition here.

Additionally, we do have some narratives here, with Kerr wanting to drown out her last World Cup experience, where she failed to convert a penalty to advance her team. She came out on fire in the 2019 World Cup, so we’re sprinkling on 2+ goals at +550. Another one of her teammates to look out for is Caitlyn Ford, the forward for Arsenal.
