Austin Gomber got rocked in his last start, giving up 11 hits and 8 runs in only 3 innings of work. Luckily for the Rockies, Walker Buehler will be on the mound for the Dodgers. He hasn’t looked as sharp since coming back from injury, and the Rockies will have a chance to keep the score close in this one. With the total dropping from 11.5 to 11, I feel more confident backing the Rockies with oddsmakers thinking there won’t be as many runs as initially expected.
The total moving down isn’t the only weird line movement in this game. First off, the fact that the Dodgers opened up inside (-200) against the Rockies after scoring 9 runs against them yesterday was weird to see. I would have expected them to open up around (-250) against the lowly Rockies in this spot. The Rockies have caught nearly 10 cents of steam since the lines dropped, too. The Dodgers are now (-185) on most books, looking like the easiest parlay piece of the night.
What do we know about plays that look too easy? They typically don’t hit, and the Dodgers might be the easies-looking play on the MLB slate on Tuesday. Instead of backing the Rockies to win this game, let’s isolate the F5 innings. Their bullpen is atrocious and I’d rather just fade Buehler and not the Dodgers solid bullpen, too. Back the Rockies to keep this game tied or be winning after the F5 innings; I’ll meet you at the cash counter when we’re the only people on the planet with a Rockies ticket in our pocket.
