The 2024 Wells Fargo Championship is the next Signature Event on the PGA Tour's schedule. All 70 golfers who qualified have either strung together consistent, quality finishes atop leaderboards, or have managed to win an event outright. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will not compete due to the expected birth of his first child.
Located at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, this par 71 course fluctuates between difficult and low scoring rounds. Wyndham Clark defends his 2023 title after beating the field by four strokes at 19-under-par, going 8-under-par during Round 3 to surge into a lead he never relinquished.
Rory McIlroy has won this event three times during 2010, 2015, and 2021. He's coming off of a win at the Zurich Classic after partnering with teammate Shane Lowry in the PGA Tour's only team-formatted event.
Max Homa, who has won the Wells Fargo Championship twice since 2019, is another outright betting favorite. Following his T3 finish at the Masters, a T55 finish at RBC Heritage, the most recent Signature Event, has created great value on his outright winner odds at Quail Hollow.

Oddsmakers have made Rory McIlroy the outright winner betting favorite ahead of Round 1. It makes sense. McIlroy has won this event three times, which is the most wins he's recorded at a single event. +850 isn't bad value, considering Scheffler tends to open up at +500 or shorter when he's competing.
However, excluding the team win at the Zurich Classic, McIlroy has been mediocre playing in 2024. He's only recorded one top-ten finish, a T3 at Valero, while he wound up T33 at the RBC Heritage during the last Signature Event played.
Xander Schauffele remains a betting favorite despite the golfer's inability to breakthrough the top of the leaderboard in 2024. Schauffele has seven top-ten finishes in 11 events this year, including a runner-up. The California native has also won seven times on the PGA Tour, with his last outright win coming at the 2022 Genesis Scottish Open.
Ludvig Åberg has taken the PGA Tour by storm during his young career. The Swede was runner-up to Scheffler during his debut at The Masters and wound up with a T10 finish at RBC Heritage after a hot start at Harbour Town Golf Links. He'll be making another debut, this time at Quail Hollow, brandishing his elite off-the-tee skillset and putting ability to make him a frontrunner at +1200 odds.
Wyndham Clark's resumé is already highly decorated despite joining the PGA Tour in 2019. Clark has three wins, three runner-up finishes, and three third-place finishes in 153 events played. His first win came at Quail Hollow in 2023, where he played an unconscious round on Saturday last year to propel himself permanently into the outright win at 19-under-par.
Clark missed the cut at Augusta National but bounced back with a T3 finish at RBC Heritage a couple of weeks ago. He's 18-1 in the outright winner betting market, although it's important to note that no golfer has ever won the Wells Fargo Championship in back-to-back appearances.

Bettors love Max Homa at +2500 odds to win his third Wells Fargo Championship this week. Homa would tie McIlroy for total wins at Quail Hollow, winning 15-under-par in 2019 and 8-under-par during difficult conditions in 2022.
There aren't a lot of eye popping stats to focus on when it comes to Homa's game in 2024, however, he's clearly comfortable playing this event. He logged a T8 finish in 2023, missed the cut in 2021, while winning outright in 2022 and 2019. His lackluster showing at RBC Heritage could contribute to these relatively long 25-1 odds, which is why bettors are pouncing on Homa early this week.
Rory McIlroy (9.58%)
Rory McIlroy's coming off of a win at the Zurich Classic but he's likely being targeted based on the extensive success he's enjoyed at Quail Hollow. McIlroy has three outright wins here since 2010, with his last victory in 2021. However, in 2024, McIlroy only has one top-ten finish, excluding his team win with Shane Lowry in New Orleans a couple of weeks ago.
Ranked seventh strokes gained off-the-tee and 20th strokes gained tee-to-green, McIlroy's approach shots and putter tend to be inconsistent. We all know he can rip it off the tee but he's also 43rd in scrambling and 32nd in sand save percentage, which shows he can wiggle out of errant lies. Still, as the outright betting favorite at +850 odds, the confidence in McIlroy is primarily based on his past history at this event, not how he's played in solo formats during 2024.
Wyndham Clark (8.38%)
Wyndham Clark is getting over eight percent of all outright winner bets due to the form he showed at Quail Hollow last year. Clark has been red-hot in 2024 too, winning at Pebble Beach, while also recording runner-up at the Arnold Palmer invitational and The PLAYERS Championship.
Clark is 14th strokes gained off-the-tee and ninth strokes gained putting. Plus, he's 39th strokes gained approaching the green. There are minimal flaws to his game right now and he hits greens in regulation on over 70 percent of his attempts. Clark ranks 22nd in hole proximity and second in birdie or better conversion rate.
History is not on Clark's side, since no golfer has ever gone back-to-back at the Wells Fargo Championship. Maybe he can break this curse, especially coming off of a T3 finish at the last Signature Event played at Harbour Town. +1800 is great value to acquire, which is another factor behind Clark getting so many wagers placed on his odds in the outright winner betting market this week.
