An excellent two-game slate of NBA basketball is lined up today. The New York Knicks and the Miami Heat start us off at 1:00 PM ET in Madison Square Garden. Then, the Golden State Warriors and the Sacramento Kings are squaring off for our first Game 7 of 2023 at 3:30 PM ET.
The winner of this Eastern Conference matchup will move on to the conference finals. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers will be waiting for the winner of the Kings versus Warriors.

Jalen Brunson has been magnificent for the Knicks this season. He showed his chops as a postseason performer with the Dallas Mavericks last season. And he followed that up by leading New York with 24.0 points per game in their Round 1 victory over Cleveland.
The Villanova product cashed this SGP in four straight games to close the series. His only miss was in Game 1, where he played just 30 minutes due to first-half foul trouble. We can safely expect around 40 minutes of action for JB this afternoon. And that's perfect for us, as he averaged 27.4 points, 7.1 assists, and 4.0 rebounds per 40 minutes. We just need 20, four, and two.
This play was a success in 35 of 45 games where Brunson played at least 34 minutes this season. He averaged 27.1 PPG, 6.6 APG, and 4.2 RPG in these games. Against the Heat this season, Brunson cashed our SGP in two of three games. His only miss came in a game where he played just 30 minutes in his first game back from injury. The playing time should be there today, and I love his chances of stuffing the stat sheet.

Game 7: possibly the two most exciting words in sports. We only get to see a few in the NBA each year, so I cherish these do-or-die games unlike anything else. However, a common theme in Game 7s is the decreased scoring output by almost every team. These contests have the propensity to turn into a "rock fight" really quickly, and I don't think today will be an exception.
Over the last five NBA postseasons, we have had 13 Game 7s, which means 26 teams have played in these games. 21 of these 26 teams scored fewer points than their postseason scoring average for that year. Conveniently, the Kings are scoring 116.0 PPG through their first six playoff games.
This is one of the fastest-paced playoff series we've seen in decades. I'm expecting both squads to slow down just a little. And, with their season on the line, scoring should be more difficult to come by this afternoon.
