St. Louis Cardinals vs. Miami Marlins Prediction: Can Braxton Garrett, Marlins Halt Losing Skid?

The Marlins just got swept by the Nationals over the weekend. They have lost five games in a row, and eight of their last 10. Tonight, they will be facing Sonny Gray and the Cardinals, who have been playing much better baseball of late. Will the Marlins break out of their slump and shock the world with an upset against one of the best pitchers in baseball, or will Sonny Gray dominate once again?

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Miami Marlins Prediction

Nobody in their right mind wants to bet on the Marlins tonight, and that’s exactly the type of bet we want our hard-earned money on. More than 85% of the bets and 90% of the handle is currently backing St. Louis in this spot (on VSiN), but the odds on the moneyline haven’t moved a cent. If the sportsbooks were concerned with being overexposed on the Cardinals, they would have made them a much larger favorite by now. It’s a great sign for Marlins backers seeing the moneyline odds staying put…

The Cardinals have struggled immensely against left-handed pitching this season. They are hitting under .200 against lefties in 2024, a trend that hasn’t gotten any better as the season’s continued. With the total dropping from 7.5 to 7, it’s looking like the Marlins are going to have a chance at keeping this game competitive. If the Cardinals were going to break out of their slump against lefties, the total wouldn’t be this low in the first place and it certainly wouldn’t be moving down…

Braxton Garrett has struggled immensely of late, but like I said earlier, he has a solid matchup tonight to “right the ship.” His pitching props tonight make it seem like he’s about to have the best start of his season, a great sign for Marlins backers. We can’t ignore Sonny Gray’s home/away splits, either. He has a 1.55 ERA at home this year, but a whopping 5.14 ERA on the road. Don’t be surprised if the Marlins offense shows some life against Gray tonight…

Miami just got swept by the lowly Nationals over the weekend. If that doesn’t give them some extra motivation to come home and hit the reset button, I don’t know what will. They get to face a right-handed starter tonight, which is massive considering how poor they’ve been against lefties this year (hence getting swept by the Nats this weekend). Fade the public and what looks like the easiest play on the board on Monday, and back the Marlins to end their losing streak at home. I’ll meet you at the cash counter when the least-popular play of the MLB slate cashes tonight.
