Before sweeping the Rockies earlier this week, Miami actually got swept by the Nationals on their home field. They were highly-motivated after getting swept by their division rival, but now that their series against the Rockies at home is over I don’t see them having the same success on the road against Oakland in this series.
JP Sears will be tasked with silencing the Marlins bats tonight. He is coming off his worst start of the season, giving up seven earned runs to the Orioles on the road. I’m fully expecting Sears to bounce back after his worst start of the year against this inferior Marlins lineup at home. They are hitting a measly .213 against LHP this season…
Ryan Weathers got out to a nice start to the 2024 season before getting roughed up in his last coupe of outings. He got crushed against the Nationals in his last start, which is concerning considering their struggles against lefties this year. He is trending downward, and the Athletics have more pop against lefties so far this season. He’s given up a home run in four of his last five starts; don’t be surprised if one of the A’s takes him yard early-on in this game.
The A’s have caught nearly twenty cents of steam in tonight’s matchup against the Marlins. You don’t see the A’s nearly (-150) on the moneyline very often, but let’s not sleep on Oakland; they are only two games under .500 playing some inspired baseball this season. Fade the Marlins after sweeping the Rockies and back the A’s to continue their winning ways at home tonight. Ryan Weathers will struggle once again he continues his efforts to prove that he is a MLB-caliber starting pitcher.
