Georgia Sports Betting Not Legalized in 2024

Sports Betting is yet to launch in Georgia, which will disappoint locals who would have been interested in betting on the US Masters next week, at Augusta National.

The most recent attempt to approve sports betting in the Peach State came this past week when SR 579 and SB 386 were filed. Despite these bills passing in the Senate, they did not make it through the House, so it is 'as we were' in terms of Georgia Sports Betting, until at least 2025.

Right now, the only way to get involved with the US Masters next week in Georgia is via DFS sites like DraftKings and FanDuel and other fantasy sites, such as Underdog Fantasy, Boom Fantasy, and Thrive Fantasy.

Why Didn't Georgia Sports Betting Pass in 2024?

Georgia sports betting didn't make it through the House, which is why it cannot be legalized in 2024, but what was the main stumbling block?

Ultimately, it came down to the best practice for spending the taxes collected from sports betting revenue. The parties could not agree on how best to spend the taxes gained from sports betting, and therefore, there was no way to get the sports betting bill through.

When Will Georgia Sports Betting Go Live?

The earliest Georgia Sports Betting can go live is in 2025, as there is no further opportunity for the bill to pass in 2024.

Whether the GOP and Democrats can agree on how to spend sports betting taxes before the next vote remains to be seen, but the very earliest we will see Georgia sports betting go live will be 2025.

How to Bet on the US Masters in Georgia?

There is no legal way to place a sports bet on the US Masters in Georgia, as neither retail sports betting nor online sports betting has been legalized in the Peach State.

So while you might be preparing for a showdown between Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy at the Masters next week, you will not be able to place a wager in Georgia.

The alternatives are for you to play on DFS apps like DraftKings and FanDuel, and also look at prop picks in PrizePicks and DraftKings Pick6.

You cannot place a sports wager on DraftKings Sportsbook in Georgia, but you can access their Daily Fantasy Sports platform.

While Georgia has never explicitly allowed Daily Fantasy Sports, they have not moved to ban the product either, so DraftKings does offer contests in Atlanta, and all other areas of Georgia.

It is the same situation for FanDuel in Georgia. Yes, you can use their Daily Fantasy Sports platform to wager real money on major sports events like the US Masters, and your favorite teams like the Atlanta Braves, the Atlanta Falcons, and the Atlanta Hawks, but you cannot bet on FanDuel Sportsbook.

Which Sportsbook Can I use in Georgia?

None. There is no retail or online sportsbook active in Georgia, as it is one of the States in America that is still very restrictive when it comes to sports betting.
