2024 MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT ODDS: GOLF BETTORS BACKING XANDER SCHAUFFELE AT MUIRFIELD

The Memorial Tournament presented by Workday is set to tee off from Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio this week. It is the next Signature Event on the 2024 PGA Tour circuit, meaning all of the biggest stars will be competing in this field.

In 2023, Viktor Hovland won the Memorial Tournament at 7-under-par, beating Denny McCarthy in a playoff. Oddsmakers are currently favoring World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler to add his fifth outright win of the year at Muirfield, followed by Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele.

All three of these golfers have won at least one event in 2024, with Scheffler and Schauffele each recording a win at the first two majors during the Masters and PGA Championship. McIlroy won the Wells Fargo Championship a few of weeks ago for the fourth time in his career, so he's already got a Signature Event win under his belt.

Golf bettors are backing Xander Schauffele as the most popular golfer in the outright winner market at the Memorial Tournament this week. PGA handicapper Matt MacKay is back to share the latest betting data for the golfers garnering the most action to win the 2024 Memorial Tournament.

Ludvig Åberg+1800
Patrick Cantlay+2500

Sahith Theegala+4000
Jordan Spieth+4500
Matt Fitzpatrick+5000
Cameron Young+5000
Byeong-Hun An+5500

Despite winning this event in 2023, Viktor Hovland is not getting a lot of respect from oddsmakers. The Norwegian golfer is 18-1 to win this event for the second consecutive time, tied with Ludvig Åberg with the fifth shortest odds.

Scheffler is +360 outright, although he's still seeking his first PGA Tour win in the month of June. McIlroy is the next betting favorite at +800, followed by Schauffele rounding out the top-three at +900.

Collin Morikawa continues to be overvalued by oddsmakers, landing at 14-1 ahead of Hovland, Åberg, and Patrick Cantlay. While it's been a quiet year for Cantlay thus far, the Californian has won the Memorial Tournament twice (2019, 2021) and has plenty of rest entering one of his best events. At 25-1, we're getting good value on Cantlay, primarily due to a T53 during his last outing at the PGA Championship.

MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT BETTING DATA

Scottie Scheffler6.11%

XANDER SCHAUFFELE (8.23%)

Xander Schauffele finally got his first major win at Valhalla Golf Club in mid-May. Now, with a couple of weeks to rest up, expect the 8-time PGA Tour winner to be prepared to keep his foot on the gas at Muirfield.

Bettors are investing in Schauffele with over eight percent of the total betting handle ahead of Round 1. He finished T24 at Muirfield in 2023, T18 in 2022, and T11 in 2021. There are few weaknesses in Schauffele's game right now, so based off the momentum he's carrying into Round 1, placing a wager at +900 odds is a good investment.

DAVIS RILEY (6.33%)

Davis Riley is a newly minted PGA Tour winner after his dominant showing at the 2023 Charles Schwab Challenge. The Mississippi native started red-hot and never faltered, even outplaying Scheffler in the final pairing on Sunday, cruising to his first solo outright win after mastering Colonial.

Bettors remain bullish on Riley after his impressive performance, gaining over six percent of all bets in the outright winner market ahead of the Memorial Tournament. Riley is +20000, or 200-1 to win this week, which is the same number he was available at during the Charles Schwab Challenge prior to going 4-under-par in Round 1.

It was Riley's first top-ten finish of the season. In 2023 at Muirfield, he shot seven-over-par, winding up T54. Perhaps he can build off the momentum from his win but the field is much more loaded than Colonial. Bettors are once again attempting to hit on Riley's lucrative longshot odds at 200-1 this week.

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER (6.11%)

The only reason we're seeing Scottie Scheffler with less bets placed in the outright winner market than Davis Riley is due to the lack of value in this betting market.

Scheffler is +360 odds to win the Memorial Tournament. All of Scheffler's outright wins have come before June during his PGA Tour career. He looked like a shell of himself in the final round at Colonial, finishing the round 1-over-par, and failing to find fairways and make birdie putts.

Scheffler played very well at Muirfield in 2023, winding up one stroke back from Hovland and McCarthy at 6-under-par. The World No. 1 started over-par in both of the first two rounds, entering Saturday at 3-over-par, before going 9-under-par in the final two rounds to surge into contention.

Ranked 5th or better in all strokes gained metrics, excluding putting (75th), Scheffler's well-rested after not competing at the RBC Canadian Open. Expect him to put on a ball-striking clinic, which is why oddsmakers are offering such short odds on Scheffler in the outright winner market.

Bettors still love Scheffler this week, despite the short odds, placing 6.11 percent of the betting handle on the Texas native to record his first outright win at Muirfield.
