LIV Golf Invitational Series Payouts Breakdown

The LIV Golf Invitational Series will implement a unique concurrent format that adds a multi-faceted approach when watching their events. There will be eight events throughout the five-month inaugural season. The first seven events feature individual competition via strokeplay format but only across 54 holes. Additionally, no cut-line is enforced, meaning all 48 players will compete in all three rounds with a guaranteed individual payout.

LIV Golf Invitational Individual Payout

Every event, excluding the eighth and final 2022 Team Championship, offers a $25 million purse divvied up between individual finishers and the top three teams (more on teams in a moment.) First place for individual finishers earns $4 million, second place earns $2.125 million, third place earns $1.5 million, and fourth place secures $1.05 million. Every finisher inside the top 11 earns at least $500,000, while $250,000 is the baseline earnings for every top 15 finishers. The 48th finisher in last place earns $120,000.

Remember the $5 million reserved for teams in the $25 million event purse? Let's revisit this and learn about the team format.

LIV Golf Invitational Teams Payout

LIV appoints 12 captains to lead each team. Before every event, there is a snake draft, allowing each captain to select three players to join their team for that particular week. This includes choosing the lineup order.

Every player will compete in an individual strokeplay format, but each team's top two scores will be used to determine its ranking during the first two rounds. Then, three of the four players' scores can be used during the third and final rounds.

The $5 million divvied out from the event purse is redistributed to the top three scoring teams. $3 million goes to the winning team, $1.5 million goes to the second-place team, and $500,000 gets split between the third-place team finisher.

During the inaugural event at the Centurion Club in England last weekend, Stinger GC won the $3 million top team payout, as they consisted of Charl Schwartzel (first), Hennie Du Plessis (second), Branden Grace (T3), and Louis Oosthuizen (T10). Crushers GC and Majesticks GC were the other two teams to earn second and third-place prize money, which included notable players such as Ian Poulter (T20), Richard Bland (T17), and Peter Uihlein (T3).

LIV Golf Invitational Special Payouts and 2022 Team Championship

Players who compete in at least four LIV events become eligible for special payouts at the end of the seven-event regular season. This includes an additional $30 million purse explicitly reserved for the individual players who finish ranked inside the top three of the season. $18 million is awarded to first place, $8 million goes to second place, and third place receives $4 million.

As if the amount of money thrown at the top individual performers and teams throughout seven regular-season events wasn't enough incentive, the 2022 Team Championship gives all 12 teams an equal chance of competing for a $50 million purse. It's a vast treasure trove of money reserved for the unique four-round team competition titled the LIV Golf Team Championship.

Remember, an additional fourth round is added during the Team Championship, with the winning team receiving $16 million to split between its four players. Even the 12th place team receives $1 million to divvy up amongst themselves.

The massive payouts, combined with a unique concurrent format, allowing players to earn huge paydays while also ensuring a healthy base salary of $120,000. It's fun for the fans as well, as the 54-hole events feature no cut lines and have an added element of rooting for a particular team that will rarely look the same. Welcome to professional golf in 2022.
