How to Play Super Bowl Squares

A large portion of why Super Bowl squares are so popular and fun is that it's incredibly easy to set up for everyone to enjoy. first, you need to set up the playing surface.

The playing surface, or grid, is made up of 10 columns (vertical) and 10 rows (horizontal). After you finish drawing the squares, you will be left with a grid of 100 Super Bowl squares. That's the playing field.

With your 100 Super Bowl squares, one team is assigned the columns and another is assigned the rows. So, at this point, you have a grid of 100 squares with either 49ers or Chiefs written across the top and the other team written down the left side for the rows.

Each of the 100 squares is then given a value that is 1/100th of the total pool. So, if you want the total prize pool to be $500, each square would cost $5, and so on.

Everyone at the party is then allowed to buy as many squares as they'd like, all of which cost $5, and place their name or initials in any square on the board. It doesn't matter which square they choose.

Once every square on the board has been sold to people at the Super Bowl party and marked with either initials or names, numbers 0-9 are assigned to each column and row. This is done by random. Usually, this involves picking numbers 0-9 out of a hat, but a random number generator spanning that same number range also works.

In the end, you should have a 100-square grid filled with names or initials and random numbers 0-9 down the left side and across the top. Once you do, your Super Bowl squares are complete.

How do Super Bowl Squares Work? - How Do You Win?

Now that your Super Bowl squares are completed, it's time for the fun part...winning money.

Traditionally, there are four different winners for Super Bowl squares. You have a first-quarter winner, a halftime winner, a third-quarter winner and a game winner.

The winner at the end of every quarter is the person who owns the square that intersects at the final digit of each team’s score when the quarter concludes. So, if the 49ers are winning 13-7 at the end of the first quarter, the person who owned the square at the intersection of San Francisco 3 and Kansas City 7 would win the prize for that quarter.

Usually first quarter and third quarter are worth the same amount while halftime is worth a little more and final score is the grand prize. So, if the pot is $500, the first and third quarter may be worth $100, halftime is worth $125 and the final score would be worth $175.
