I don’t know about you, but I’m seeing everyone try to be a meteorologist instead of trying to find the winning horse on Saturday. I’m now hearing there’s a solid chance that rain might not even be a factor at all at Churchill Downs on Saturday. Let’s focus on the ponies instead of trying to handicap the weather. I’ve got a horse that, if the race plays out how I expect, has a great chance to come from behind and win this race.

I’m predicting a fast running at the Derby this year. There are a lot of great horses who can get out to fast starts, but will they have the stamina to hold their positions down the stretch? Horses like Catalytic (30-1) like to press the pace. I can see this horse taking the lead early with a great start, pushing the pace of this race and speeding it up.

If this race ends up being fast, I really like Catching Freedom (7-1) to rally late. He is the best closer in this race, and if it ends up being fast enough, I like his chances to come from behind in the Derby. This is one of the most slept on, least talked about horses in the Derby. In this colt’s five starts, he’s won three races and showed once, finishing third. I like his chances on Saturday as one of the sleeper picks in this year’s Kentucky Derby.

Catching Freedom has one of the best trainers around, Kentucky-local Brad Cox. This is the same trainer who prepared Mandaloun for the Derby, who has now officially won the 2021 Derby after Medina Spirit was disqualified in February. Cox is one of the best trainers around, don’t be surprised if one of his two horses in this year’s Derby wins again. Back the best closer in the Derby this year; let’s cash a 7-1 ticket.
