The Kentucky Derby will take place for the 148th time on Saturday afternoon, and I am fired up for this! I will be heading down for the Kentucky Derby, so I can’t wait to watch, but that also means I have to find us a lot of winners for the race to make it a good time.
The Derby is one of the oldest events in American sports history, dating way back to 1875 when it was first run. The first horse to ever win the Derby was Aristides, who was ridden by jockey Oliver Lewis. Lewis was just nineteen years old at the time, becoming the first jockey to ever win the Kentucky Derby. That’s quite the accomplishment for a nineteen-year-old.
They call the Derby the best two minutes in sports because the track is really that short. It is an event millions gather to watch a year, making it one of the best days of the year for sports fans.
One of the favorites to win the Derby this year is a horse named Epicenter. The jockey for Epicenter is one of the best in the sport in the form of Joel Rosario. The thirty-seven-year-old who reigns from the Dominican Republic will look to win the Derby on Sunday. He is coming off the best year of his career, earning a whopping 35.21 million racing in 2021. Rosario won the Derby back in 2011 with a horse named Orb and won the Belmont stakes most recently in 2019, riding the horse Sir Winston. The odds of Epicenter winning the race are currently 7/2. The play we are going to bet is that Epicenter places top three, or shows, because I would be shocked if we did not at least get a top-three finish here. Rosario is one of the best jockeys in the game, perhaps the best at the moment, making this pick a no-brainer for me. I will have another article with my longshot winners, but I feel like it is a safe play here!Â
