ANALYSIS

Edmonton Oilers vs. Florida Panthers Prop Pick: Can Panthers Stop Connor McDavid in Stanley Cup Final Game 7?

It has been 82 years since the Toronto Maple Leafs came back from a 0-3 deficit in the 1942 Stanley Cup Final and defeated the Red Wings. It is the only time in history that a team across any major US sport has come back and won from a 0-3 deficit in a championship series. Tonight, the Oilers have the chance to make history in the modern era. What should we expect in this Game 7?

Edmonton Oilers vs. Florida Panthers Game 7 Prediction

One of the most important players on the Oilers, Connor McDavid, had a quiet Game 6, recording no points and no shots on goal. Luckily, his team had his back, dominating the Panthers en route to a 5-1 win.

Last game, we had an article pick on Connor McDavid to go under 3.5 shots on goal, which won, as he finished with a donut. For Game 7, I’m going with the same pick, as I believe McDavid is most effective as a passer and not a shooter.

McDavid has now gone under 3.5 shots on goal in three straight games, and in four of the six games overall in this series. McDavid is not usually a high volume shooter, as he was the overall NHL assist leader during the regular season. He only has eight goals this postseason and 34 assists, which speaks to his role in the offense.

The Panthers' defense is one that does not allow a lot of shots. They are second in the NHL in shooting percentage allowed, which has remained true in this series, as the top shooters for the Oilers have remained mostly quiet. McDavid recording zero shots on goal and just one in Game 6 (one was an empty netter goal) speaks to his role in these most important games of the entire season, and I believe he will once again look to be a playmaker instead of the scorer in the biggest game of the Oilers' season. Back McDavid to stay under 3.5 shots on goal for the third game in a row of this series tonight.
