Tampa Bay Lightning vs. New York Rangers Game 6 Prediction

Tampa Bay was down 2-0 in this series but stormed back with 3 straight wins. Tampa took Game 5 by a 3-1 count thanks to another Ondrej Palat goal at the 18:10 mark of regulation. Palat has been Mr. Clutch for this team as he has notched game-winning goals in 2 of the 3 Tampa wins, both coming late in the third period. The Bolts look to become the first franchise since the New York Islander dynasty teams of the early 80s to reach 3 straight Stanley Cup Finals.

It took the Bolts a couple of games to get going in this series, which can be attributed to rust in between rounds, but they have made their presence felt since the 2nd period of Game 3. The Rangers have been a team that has struggled in 5 on 5 situations all season long, as their metrics have shown. The key to this Ranger team is their Power Play, which has been lethal all season. New York has scored a league-leading 17 Power Play goals in the playoffs and has a conversion rate of 31%. The key to Tampa's turnaround in this series has been their ability to limit New York's Power Play opportunities. In the first 3 games of the series, Tampa granted the Rangers 11 Power plays, in which New York Converted 3 of them into goals. In the following 2 games, New York has only had 3 Power Play opportunities, including only 1 in Game 5.

On the road in the playoffs, the Rangers are 2-7 and are averaging 2.44 goals per game and 3.67 goals against. At home, during the playoffs, the Bolts are 6-1 and are averaging 3.86 goals per game and 2.14 goals against. Tampa can play any style, home or away, New York, however, struggles on the road as evidenced by their splits. They did defeat Carolina in game 7 on the road but going up against Andrei Vailiveskiy and his playoff-clinching record is much different than Antii Raanta.

Speaking of the Big cat and his series-clinching records... over his last 8 series-clinching games, Vasy is 7-1 and has posted shutouts in 6 of those games, while stopping 224 of 228 shots on goal. With Vasy's history in clinching games, and New York's inability to get consistent scoring on the road, I love the value of Vasy's shutout prop tonight.
