Edmonton's secondary scoring, which has been an issue for them in the McDavid era, proved to be the difference as Ryan Nugent-Hopkins picked up two goals, including the eventual game-winner late in the third period. Goaltending has been shaky for both teams in this series as Jacob Markstrom and Mike Smith each had a blunder, Markstrom's in the first minute of the game and Smith's late in the third as he let in a goal from the other end of the ice. This series has seen its fair share of goals, as the Over is 3-1 and a total of 36 goals. I see this trend continuing tonight, in an elimination game. Non-Game 7 elimination game overs are 8-2-1 in these playoffs, with a total of 74 goals being scored (6.72 goals per game). Both of these goalies have had issues against the opposing team. In eight games against Edmonton this year, the Vezina finalist Jacob Markstrom has a 4.37 GAA and a .867 save percentage against the Oilers, giving up 33 goals. Mike Smith has had his troubles in Calgary this season. In three starts at the Saddledome, Smith has a 5.96 GAA and a .868 save percentage, giving up 10 goals.Â
I am expecting Calgary to press in this game as their backs are against the wall. I prefer a line of 6 but I am going to bite the bullet on the 6.5 and low juice. Look for Johnny Hockey to have a big game as the Flames try to extend their season. I, for one, am not ready for this series to end.Â
