The Boston Bruins visit the Carolina Hurricanes in the first of three First Round NHL Game 7's today. Can the Hurricanes close it out at home?
ANALYSIS

Boston Bruins vs. Carolina Hurricanes Prediction: Can the Canes Close it Out at Home?

Home teams have dominated this series as they have won all six games, outscoring the road team by a 29-10 margin. The Bruins staved off elimination with a 5-2 win on Thursday night as Brad Marchand led the way with a goal and assist and Jeremy Swayman stopped 23 of 25 shots to extend Boston's season. Let's get into it with my prediction, pick, and odds for Boston Bruins vs. Carolina Hurricanes.

Boston Bruins vs. Carolina Hurricanes Prediction

Boston has had issues with depth scoring in this series and opted to break up the perfection line (put back together after Game 2) and that move worked as the B's got goals from Coyle, Lazar, Haula, and Forbot. Both of these teams have been scoring on the Power Play in this series as the Canes have 6 PPGs and the Bruins have 5.

Five on Five has been a different story, however. The Hurricanes have scored 13 Five on Five goals in this series and they have allowed 9. Boston, on the other hand, has scored 9 Five on Five goals and allowed 13. Game 7s are usually called tighter by the officials, so this stat could come into play today.

After Linus Ullmark was yanked after Game 2, The goaltending matchup has been pretty much even in this series as Jeremy Swayman has a .913 save percentage and Antii Raanta has a .926 save percentage. The difference in this game will be Carolina's ability to dictate matchups by playing this game at home, which obviously has worked in this series.

Boston has had trouble generating offense on the road and The Canes are a much deeper team and should wear Boston down as this game goes along. This series has been tight as most of the goals have come in the third period. 19 of the series' 39 goals as a matter of fact. I think this game will start slow and cautious, as neither team wants to make an early mistake and I like the Hurricanes to continue the home team trend in this series and finally exorcise their playoff demons as they move onto the second round.
