The Washington Capitals continue their five-game road trip as they travel to Las Vegas to take on the Golden Knights. Tone's Takes breaks down the game and shares his pick.
ANALYSIS

Washington Capitals vs Vegas Golden Knights Prediction: Expect Offense in the Desert

The Washington Capitals are 2-1 on their current road trip, following a 3-2 at Colorado on Monday night. Washington currently holds the second Wild Card spot in the East but are one point behind the Pittsburgh Penguins for third in the Metropolitan Division, with a game in hand.

The Golden Knights are coming off their worst loss of the season, a 3-2 decision to the Devils, at home, on Monday. This loss, coupled with the Kings' regulation win last night, puts Vegas five points behind Los Angeles for third in the Division and four points behind Dallas for the final Wild Card Spot. Vegas does have a game in hand on Los Angeles so that may be the likely route to the playoffs. Either way, the Knights have to most likely win 4 of their last 5 games, if not all of them, to keep pace.

Washington Capitals vs Vegas Golden Knights Prediction

The Caps have gotten healthy and have just been terrorizing teams over the past month. Washington is 15-5-1 Since the beginning of March, averaging four goals per game and allowing 3.28. Washington's Power Play, which had trouble all year due to the injuries, has also scored 20 goals during this time frame. On the road this season, where Overs are 20-16, the Caps average 3.59 goals per game and their Power Play is middle of the pack at 19.6%. They have scored Power Play goals in 7 of their 10 road games, however. Washington is allowing 2.78 goals per game, on the road, and their Penalty Kill is 10th at 80%. Five on Five, the Caps are seventh in goal scoring, on the road, and fourth in goals allowed.

Since Jack Eichel entered the lineup, the Knights have failed to find consistency. Vegas has a record of 13-14-2 and has averaged 2.89 goals per game and they are allowing 2.96 goals per game. Vega has had injuries all year to major players like Stone and Pacioretty, who both recently returned, but it may be too late for this team. At home this season, where Overs are 23-14, the Knights are averaging 3.33 goals per game and their Power Play is toward the bottom of the league, at 20%, They are allowing 2.90 goals per game, at home, and their Penalty Kill is toward the bottom of the league, at 77%. Five on Five, the Knights sixth in-home goal scoring and 21st in goals against.

I am expecting a spirited effort from the Golden Knights, after Monday's humiliating loss. The Capitals will have no problem matching that tenacity and going toe to toe with Vegas, this should be a fun game to watch and love a number of 6. Grab it before it goes to 6.5.
