ANALYSIS

NHL Friday's Best Bet: Florida Panthers vs Winnipeg Jets and Canadiens vs Islanders

Life is too short to bet the under. I do not know who said it first but the man was very wise and correct, it is. I understand there are spots for it but in that same sense there are spots for games to go over as well; I look for and have built my name virtually on the later. I love to attack totals where I see spots for them; I could wait for the perfect one always but if you know this sport that is just not how it works.

Puck luck is a very real thing and sometimes you can make the perfect play and they will still find a way to keep the biscuit out of the basket (throwback to Malkins wide open empty net miss for us in Columbus a month ago.) I have learned that if you know what you are looking for you tend to find it and I see a great opportunity to get after these two totals tonight so that is what we will do though. The slate is small though so do not go crazy with your wagers, we have fourteen games tomorrow.

With that said, we roll.

Well, we got burned on the over down in Florida last time out but I see a solid chance for redemption here this evening. Florida has buried 173 goals through 37 games on home ice this season for a league-best ( and still by a very wide margin) 4.68 GF/G on home ice. They are one of the few squads in the league that pulls off the strategy of “we do not care if you score because we will score more goals than you” and we love it.

Florida Panthers Home Splits: 1P o1.5 is 29-8 at home, 27-10 Team Total, Total is 25-10-1.

Tonight Winnipeg is coming to town and they are desperate for points, Florida should be well aware of that. I do expect a really good game here so I am not backing aside but if Florida does not run away with it should be a case of “anything you can do I can do better” tonight. Both first-string netminders are between the pipes but they have busted under pressure countless times this season.

I think this line is a half goal short; this one could blow through the total and I would not be surprised but worst-case scenario here I think we see six goals and I love that we are getting my favorite number of 5.5 at such a cheap price. 4-2 one way or another, I do not care who does it.

This season Montreal is sporting a 3.57 GAA at home; New York counters with a 3.14 GAA and we get a boost with backup netminder Semyon Varlomov is in net tonight. Since the All-Star break, Montreal has only begun to concede at a higher rate, and Carey Price will be making his season debut this evening so some rust is expected.

Both teams are out of the race but they want the win. I really love the way the Isles play and believe both squads have bright futures; Montreal and that young core look awesome under Martin St. Louis. Since the break they have both scored a bit more too which is great for us here; New York is sporting a 3.31 GF/G since the break and Montreal counters with a 3.07.

The Isles are 7-3 in their last 10 first period over 1.5's and 4-1 in their last five.
