NHL Thursday's Best Bets: Philadelphia Flyers vs Columbus Blue Jackets and Predators vs Senators

Well, there is a huge slate tonight but I got caught up watching our man Tiger (that bet looks great, not to toot my own horn) this morning a bit so I got started here a bit late. Going to cut back on the narratives here in this article and dive right into two of my favorite totals to get our night started off strong.

Philadelphia Flyers vs Columbus Blue Jackets Prediction

Post All-Star Break Philly is conceding the third-most goals in the league with a 3.92 GAA; The Columbus Blue Jackets are not far behind with at 5th worst with a 3.75 GAA. Philly is sporting a 3.62 GAA on the road this season and their netminder tonight, Martin Jones, is just 9-14-3 with a 3.38 GAA. Columbus is sporting a 3.54 GAA on the season.

You all get the point; this one should be a barnburner and we are attacking the total. The first period has gone over in 49 of their 71 games this season for a league second-best 69.01% hit rate; they are 8-2 across their last ten. They are an identical 49/71 for GIFT’s on the season and 9-1 last ten.

Philadelphia is not one of the leading teams on the season when it comes to overall runs here but are 7-3 across their last ten and 7-2-1 L10 on the road. With their recent form and inability to keep the other guys from lighting the lamp along I love them to keep this trend going.

Columbus pushes the pace early (obviously) and will do so in this one; it is a long shot but they do still have a chance to earn a ticket to the dance this season. They are a much better team at home and just beat Philly in Philly the other day.

I do believe they come out strong again here tonight and get their two points; that may be a thrilling overtime finish at a score of 4-3, I have no idea; I love this total here tonight though and if we get started early Columbus should bring us home.

Nashville Predators vs Ottawa Senators Prediction

Juse Sarose looked like a stud to start the season and I still believe he can be in the long run but I also said that they were overworking him and I think that has shown. They were leaning on him too hard to start the season and I think he lost some of that edge with such a high volume of play.

Nashville is sporting a 3.70 GF/G since the All-Star break and fighting hard for playoff positioning; they turn things on the road and both teams have been on really nice GIFT runs so I expect these squads to keep that trend going here.

Anton Forsberg is actually a very solid netminder in my opinion but with the pace of play, poor defensive efforts from the guys in front of him, and Nashville’s recent form I do not see them struggling to bury the puck this evening.

The first period o1.5 is 7-3 across the last ten for Nashville, and 26-10 on the road this season overall. Ottawa is both 6-3-1 L10 at home and L10 overall.
