New York Rangers vs New Jersey Devils Prediction: Can the Rangers End Their Skid?

New York is coming off a 4-3 shootout loss to the Flyers, at home, on Sunday night. The Rags trailed 3-1 with five mins left and stormed back to tie the game before losing in the shootout. This followed a 3-0 home loss to the Islanders on Friday night. New York is battling with Pittsburgh for home ice, in what is most likely going to be a first round matchup. The Rangers are two points up on the Pens and they do battle on Thursday night. The Devils are coming off a tough 4-3 loss to the Islanders Sunday afternoon, at home. Superstar Jack Hughes left the game early with a leg injury. His status is yet to be determined tonight, he would be a huge loss to this run and gun New Jersey offense.

New York Rangers vs New Jersey Devils Prediction

This is the third meeting of the season. New York took the first two meetings, both at home, but the Devils won the last meeting, a 7-4 decision in New Jersey two weeks ago. The Rangers are a very good road team as they have a 22-13-2 record, where they average 2.87 goals per game and have the 3rd best Power Play, clicking at 26.5%. The Rangers are allowing 2.81 goals per game, on the road, which is seventh least and they have the ninth best penalty kill at 79.6%. In five on five situations, away from home, New York is 21st in goals and 17th in goals against.

At home this season, where New Jersey has a 16-15-4 record, the Devils are averaging 3.20 goals per game on the 16th ranked Power Play. New Jersey is allowing 3.26 goals per game on home ice and their Penalty Kill is 13th at 82.8%. In five on five situations, the Devils have scored the 11th fewest goals and they have given up the fourth most goals. Goaltending has been a major issue for New Jersey this season. Save percentage is a stat that I look at the most for goalies and New Jersey netminders have a combined .883 save percentage this season.

I like the way the Ranger ended the third period on Sunday night, I saw signs of them coming out of their slump and I think they will carry that into this game. That coupled with the New Jersey 7-4 beat-down 2 weeks ago and I think we'll see a focused Ranger team tonight. Of Course, Igor Shesterkin is preferred but I am fine if Georgiev goes tonight. I like the Rags to handle business, in regulation.
