The Los Angeles Kings return home from a successful Western Canada trip tonight as they host the Calgary Flames. Here's TonesTakes' prediction and best NHL bet for Monday night.
ANALYSIS

Los Angeles Kings vs. Calgary Flames Best Bet: Reigniting the Flames

The Kings went 2-0-1 on their road trip, including a 3-2 shootout win in Calgary. Los Angeles’ recent run has been impressive as they are missing key pieces on defense. Drew Doughty, Mikey Anderson, and Matt Roy are all out and have been for 3 weeks. The Calgary Flames are in the midst of their worst slump since early January, as they have lost 3 straight games, all at home. Due to this slump, the Flames lead on the Kings, for the division, is down to 3 points. Calgary does have 3 games in hand but they will want to right the ship.

Kings vs. Flames Puck Line Movement

Sometimes, a struggling team just needs to get out on the road. The Flames are an outstanding road team, as evidenced by their 19-11-2 record. The Flames average 3.29 goals per game on the road and have the 7th best Power Play at 23.2%. Calgary allows a 6th least 2.72 goals per game on the road and their Penalty kill is 16th at 78.4%. Calgary is 10th in Five on Five goals, on the road, and 5th in goals against.

The Kings, as mentioned, are home after a quick road trip. At home this season, LA has a record of 18-14-3, where they average 2.92 goals per game on an 18.3% Power Play, which is 7th worst. LA is allowing 2.86 goals per game and their home Penalty kill is 76.7%, which is bottom ten in the league. The Kings are 19th in Five on Five scoring and 15th in five on five goals allowed at home.

I like this spot for the Flames and I think they will start fast. In 1st periods, on the road, the Flames are 18-6-9 and they average 1.31 goals for and .66 goals against. The Kings are 9-9-17 in 1st periods, at home, where they average .67 goals for and .69 goals against. Added to the fact that Los Angeles is returning from a road trip and the Flames are looking for revenge from last week's loss, I think there is also value in this first period bet. I am rolling with 2 wagers on this game.
