ANALYSIS

Los Angeles Kings vs Winnipeg Jets: Goals Should be at a Premium

The Kings are currently 1-0-1 on this road trip, they dropped a 4-3 shootout decision to the Oilers on Wednesday and followed that with an impressive 3-2 shootout win at Calgary on Thursday. The Kings continue to be the biggest surprise in the league as they are occupying the 2nd spot in the Pacific Division with a 1 point lead over the Edmonton Oilers. Los Angeles has 84 points this season on a record of 37-23-10. The addition of Phillip Danualt has turned out to be one of the best moves of the offseason. Along with Anze Kopitar, the Kings are very solid down the middle and will be a very tough out, come playoff time. The Winnipeg Jets are trying to keep their playoff hopes alive. Winnipeg is 4 points behind Vegas for the final Wild Card spot, with a game in hand. The Jets are missing leading goal scorer Kyle Connor, who is in Covid Protocol. Connor's 41 goals and 82 points lead this Jet team, by far.

Los Angeles Kings at Winnipeg Jets Prediction

On the road this season, where Unders are 20-13, the Kings are averaging 2.74 goals per game and their Power Play is a 4th lowest 14.3 percent. The Kings do a great job at limiting goals on the road as their 2.74 average is 6th lowest. Their Penalty Kill, however, has struggled. Their 74.2% rate is 7th worst in the league but the Kings take the 4th fewest penalties in the league away from home. LA's road splits, in five on five situations, tells a similar story. The Kings have scored the 8th fewest goals and have allowed the 2nd fewest. The Kings have not announced a starting goalie as of this writing, but both Quick and Peterson have been solid this season.

At home this season, where Unders are 12-17, the Jets are averaging 3.47 goals per game and have the 8th best Power Play at 25%. Winnipeg is allowing 2.91 goals per game at home and their Penalty Kill is the worst in the league. Five on Five, at home, the Jets are 17th in goals and 11th in goals against. These numbers could point you to the over, but not having Kyle Connor in the lineup is a big void for this team. Connor Hellebuyck is confirmed to start in goal. Connor has had an inconsistent season as he sports a 2.92 GAA and a .912 Save %. The Jets need him in a game like this and I think he'll be up to the task.

This is the 3rd meeting of the season, the Jets picked up 3-2 wins in LA and in Winnipeg. The Under is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings between these clubs. I see a playoff-type game tonight where goals should be at a premium.
