Minnesota Wild vs. Pittsburgh Penguins Best Bet: Look for These Squads to Light the Lamp

This game is much like the matchup between Carolina and Tampa Bay that we cashed in on the other night on multiple levels; this game has all the potential in the world to go over but could easily go under and I would not be surprised.

Tonight, however, I really believe the stars have aligned for this one to go over.

Minnesota Wild vs. Pittsburgh Penguins Prediction

Minnesota is red hot and playing what is the final game of what has been a very long homestand. They were fighting for a spot and legitimacy in the playoff conversation about a month ago but after this run of dominance they have gone on recently and the pre-playoff run acquisition of one of the best netminders in the league, MAF, they look excellent heading into the postseason.

So does Pittsburgh however they tend to play a slightly different style of hockey. Led by Crosby and Co. they can light the lamp just as easily as Minnesota and have done so plenty this season; they do however play a lot more defensively sound hockey and unlike Minny who just acquired their stud netminder, have had theirs all season long. All great pipemen have had bad runs/games this season but Tristan Jarry has been pretty lights out for the greater majority of the season and they are able to sit back and trust him and their defense at times.

The best part of all of this for us?

Tristan Jarry and Marc-Andre Fleury do not matter tonight because they are not playing tonight; secondary netminders Casey DeSmith and Cam Talbot are and that is why I love this total (though I still would play it with TJ & MAF.)

Minnesota has a 3.97 GF/G at home this season and Pittsburgh counters with a 3.12 GF/G on the road; in the past when these squads have met they both have let the offensive side of their games outshine the defensive. Even if the Pens wanted to slow things down I do not believe they would be able to; they will match pace tonight and things should be really exciting early. The last three times these squads met the games ended 7-4, 7-3, and earlier this season 5-4.

Minnesota overs at home have been one of the cash cows of the season. They are 20-11-1 this year and despite poor recent form running 0-5 L5 on this homestand, I believe we are due for some positive regression. Tonight is an excellent spot to do so as both squads have all the necessary firepower, backup netminders between the pipes, and motivation at their backs. Pittsburgh has dropped three of their last five and are hungry for a win and Minnesota wants to close out this a perfect 6-0.

Light the lamp.
