NHL Best Bets for Wednesday: St. Louis Blues vs Vancouver Canucks, Golden Knights vs Kraken, and More

Well guys I was looking into the slate and see a few spots I like across the board but at the current moment I am still waiting on netminder confirmation for three of the four guys on these two early games this evening, so I am going to hold off on those for now and just dive into the late-night puck since we know all the variables there. We have had a crazy hot start to the week and I am excited to keep things rolling here tonight.

St. Louis Blues vs Vancouver Canucks

Now I just wrote about this squad and matchup the other night when we cashed in on St. Louis at home on Monday night; I am going to abbreviate this write up in comparison to that one because not much has changed. The motivation factor is still there for this club and they have an opportunity to take four points on a back to back here that they desperately need.

St. Louis does not just care about making the playoffs; yes, you must cross that bridge first but getting Colorado with home ice in round one is a tough road to start a cup run. St. Louis has been an excellent playoff club over the last decade or so, they have made a couple deep runs including that cup three years ago; last year, however, Colorado swept them in the first round of the playoffs.

This team is better than they were a year ago but Colorado is just as hungry for a cup this season as they were last, if not hungrier. They do not want to see Colorado in the first round and they should not have to. They lost their comfortable spot in second and now must claw their way back up; motivation plays a big role in this final month of the season; everything they have done up to this point this year is lost if you throw it away now.

Vancouver is fighting as well however they are fighting an uphill battle to say the least. They sat their stud netminder Thatcher Demko in St. Louis on Monday so they could go with their main man this evening on home ice but it is not like they are much better there. The Canucks are a lowly 14-18 at home this season and just 1-4 across their L5 on home ice. They have 31 wins for a reason; they have played some good hockey and are more than capable of winning this game here but their success has been flawed in my opinion and they have been trending downwards as of late.

I believe this St. Louis squad got some things going again the other night and they are ready to get those points back that they let go by in this last month. At this line I think there is some excellent value because when you dive into the splits and team comparisons a bit deeper here St. Louis holds the edge on quite a few levels of the game so at +100 I think this play is a steal.

Back the Blues.

Vegas Golden Knights vs Seattle Kraken Prediction

Motivation is key this time of the year and the Vegas Golden Knights have it in this one.

Despite a major lack of production lately and being in rather poor form they are still a very talented squad with 36 wins on the season; that isn’t a fluke, they can and should be one of the more truly elite squads in the league and I think they find it again this season. Tonight is a great spot to establish momentum against a Seattle team that was stripped before the trade deadline last week, sits dead last in their division, and has no aspirations of making a run at the cup whatsoever.

The Kraken have been scoring a bit more as of late; with the way the Golden Knights have been playing and Logan Thompson likely for them tonight I think Seattle buries a few but Vegas should score more and that is why I like the total in this one.  Seattle is sporting a league worst 3.72 GAA and are just 11-21 at home this season, 3-7 across their last ten. Vegas is coming off back-to-back wins and have dropped eleven goals in their last two contests; they will also be facing Seattle’s secondary netminder in Chris Driedger tonight.

No data outside of that on this one, motivation should really be the deciding factor Vegas needs to get the job done here tonight against a team playing for nothing. Back the Golden Knights and ride the total here tonight.
