I am fully transparent on this and have said it before; I am unbiased regarding my own teams. I have two rules about it and follow them strictly; it has worked well. In all honesty, I know my teams the best, so I usually know when it is best to back them and tonight I am riding with my guys as they desperately need this one here at home.

St. Louis Blues vs. Vancouver Canucks Prediction

At the end of February, this St. Louis squad was the second-best squad in the entire western conference sporting an impressive record of 32-14-6 leaving them with seventy points trailing only the Avalanche. In the first two months of the 22’ campaign, they played just twenty games due to the NHL All-Star Break, but in those twenty games, they looked like a cup team again. They went 14-6 and scored seventy-two goals while doing so for a 3.90 GF/G; on the other end, they were holding teams to 2.60 GAA. 

The Notes looked great and key guys on the club looked poised to make another run for the hardware. Yes, the whole roster needs to be in form to be truly effective but having your studs playing electric hockey helps that happen. The roster has changed but key guys like Ryan O’Reilly, David Perron, Vladimir Tarasenko are all still here and complemented by quite a few more; they just steal the spotlight and also may not be around much longer. 

Then came the Ides of March.

They have gone just 3-9 and now they not only sit sixth in the conference but have recently dropped to fourth in their division and are on the verge of losing a seat at the table all together. It is vital this squad gets it together quickly if they want to make a run at things and knowing hockey, this club, and these guys I believe they do; that is what it really comes down to.

Ville Husso has come back to earth a bit but is still a solid netminder and I do expect him to get back on track in the grand scheme of things shortly as the Blues need to tighten up significantly. Jaroslav Halak will be between the pipes for Vancouver tonight so that tells us that if they are going to split this series, they want to roll with their main man Thatcher Demko at home as would most.

Don’t get me wrong the Canucks have been playing well this season and are looking good in the overall scheme of things but have been poor over the last two weeks. I don’t think sending out their #2 netminder in Halak (3-6-2 with a 3.19 GAA this season; lit up multiple times) is the man to win them the game, one against a squad that is out for blood on home ice and desperate for a win.

Maybe I am wrong, and this season goes down in flames but this squad has been electric all season long and the remnants of that Stanley Cup team are fading. DP57 is an UFA after this season; Tarasenko and the Captain both have another year left on their deals before they are UFA. Vladdy requested a trade preseason this year -nothing against the squad it’s an issue with team doctors if you want to look into it- and I am unsure if that relationship has been or can be mended but I am sure another cup run would help them all really entertain the idea of staying in the Lou next season.
