Carolina Hurricanes vs. Washington Capitals Prediction
Well, last time these two squads met Washington was just on the cusp of busting out of their slump and I backed Carolina. I got burned.Â
The Capitals had way too many power plays and Carolina was behind from the get-go; you cannot give that unit the opportunity to spend twelve minutes (more than half a period) on the ice, Ovi & Co. are just far too dangerous in space. They are only hitting on about 19% of their opportunities on the man advantage on the season but it has been a different story post all-star break where they have converted at 29.4%, 3rd best in the league.Â
Washington kicks it up a gear on the road, they play tighter at home. The over has hit in the last four straight road games for them and the last three meetings between these two squads in Carolina has gone 3-0 on the total with scores of 6-4, 4-3, and most recently on a lower total of o5.5 on a 4-2 game.Â
Now Carolina likes to keep things tight on home ice for the most part and the totals there tend to not be too high scoring (unless it is them doing it) but I do not believe they are going to be able to keep Washington off the board completely tonight. They are sporting a 3.67 GF/G since the break.
Trust me I believe Carolina is incredibly motivated after getting smoked 4-0 a month ago in Washington. They play exceptionally well on home ice and are sporting a 3.45 GF/G average in their own barn. They want this one badly and will get after it tonight, but I just see opportunities flowing for both squads.Â
Both squads can score on the power play, I know they can kill it as well, but history shows they excel on those against each other, and I do believe the pace of play and hunger for a win here will lead to penalties. Do we need them? No, both squads can bury it even strength as well and with them both being on a back-to-back here, they should push a few factors in this game our way and help us bag this total.
