New Jersey Devils vs Calgary Flames Prediction: Expect a Red Hot Offensive Performance From the Flames

New Jersey enters tonight's contest against the Calgary Flames coming off a 6-3 loss to the Vancouver Canucks last night. The Devils hung in for two periods but faded in the third. Nico Daws was pulled after giving up four goals on 21 shots.

New Jersey Devils vs Calgary Flames Prediction

The Calgary Flames are back home after a quick trip to Colorado on Sunday night. Calgary suffered a 3-0 shutout loss, despite putting 46 shots on net. The Flames currently have a 5 point lead on the slumping LA Kings for 1st place in the Pacific. Johnny Gaudreau is having an outstanding year under Daryl Sutter. Johnny Hockey leads the Flames with 52 assists and 78 points this season.  I am going to keep this one simple, the Flames have a fantastic matchup tonight against the Devils. New Jersey has struggled, all season, to keep the puck out of their own net, especially on the road.

New Jersey is allowing 3.90 goals per game on the road, which is third-most in the league. The Devils actually have a decent road penalty kill, which is eighth best at 80.7%. Five on five, however, tells a different story for the Devils. New Jersey has given up 82 goals in five on five situations on the road, most in the league.

The Devils have given up the sixth least high danger scoring chances on the road, which is 6th best in the league. This leads to their goaltending, which has been an issue all season. Nico Daws, who has a 2.76 goals against average and a .909 save percentage, has been their best option this season. After being pulled last night, there is a chance he goes again tonight. If he doesn't, New Jersey will turn to Jon Gillies. Gillies has a 3.33 goals against and a .885 save percentage this season. The Devils have given up 4 or more goals in 17 of 29 games this season.

Want to bet on Flames vs Devils? Bet $10 to win $200 with BetMGM The Flames have been an offensive wagon on home ice this season. Calgary averages a fifth best 3.61 goals per game at home. They also fire a ton of pucks on net as their 35.4 shots per game average is sixth most among home teams. The Flames have the 10th best home power play at 24.2%. The Flames have scored a 10th best 65 five on five goals at home this season, and are 13th in high danger scoring chances.

These teams met earlier in the season, Nee New Jersey, which resulted in a 5-3 Calgary win. The Flames have scored 4 or more goals in 13 of their 28 home games this season. I like a rested Flames team, who are coming off a shutout, to take it to the Devils tonight on home ice. Given this favorable matchup, I am going with an alternate line at plus money.
