NHL Best Bets for Friday Night: Minnesota Wild vs Columbus Blue Jackets and Winnipeg Jets vs New York Islanders

Minnesota Wild vs Columbus Blue Jackets

I am starting off this one with my favorite game on the slate tonight and I think there could be like 94 goals in this game. Hyperbole but you get my point; I love this total, and I see no reason why it does not hit.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have played five games In March; they are 1-4 and have conceded 23 goals with 16 goals coming in their last three contests. They lost 6-0 last night.

Brutal.

Now tonight they are back home which is good, they are better offensively there, and I do not mean to tear these guys apart. They play good hockey and do good things they just don’t have the guys they need to be a great squad. Defensive problems have existed all year and the pace they play at just generates a lot of things going the other way. Their netminders have been average at best but worse than that as of late.

Basically, they can score but they tend to get scored on a lot more. That is good because we like the over. Minnesota is an excellent matchup with them for us here. I wrote about them last night if you missed it but basically, I said they were due to get hot (they did) and I said they had scored 23 goals in their last six road games.

Make that 29 in seven for a 4.14 GF/G on the road after a 6-5 shootout victory in Detroit.

They are clicking again and guys like Kapril Kaprizov and Kevin Fiala and setting the tone for what I am expecting to be a strong push from them here in this back half of the season. These teams both crush overs on a consistent basis and are so great at it because they tend to get things going early.

Minnesota has taken the throne as the #1 1P o1.5 team in the league; they have hit in 9 of their last ten contests and are about half a point shy of 70% on the year. Columbus is not far behind them in the #4 spot hitting in a little over 65% of all contests this year.

This one should be a barnburner and I do expect the Blue Jackets to play better tonight in their own barn but I just think that the Wild have the hotter horses in this one. Minnesota needs to stop giving up so many goals if they want a chance to win playoff games but that is not a problem that I see them fixing overnight. They will give them up due to the pace of this game and probably some poor mistakes as we have seen them due often, but just like last night in Detroit, I see the Wild coming out on top.

Both squads are on a back-to-back here and Winnipeg will be playing their third in four days; they are coming off a surprisingly low-scoring affair in a 2-1 win over New Jersey. New York shut out Columbus in a dominating six-goal win last night and are looking like a different team as of late.

New York is not what we would consider an offensively dominant team, but they have buried eighteen in five games this month already and are getting a Winnipeg team that has been playing a lot of hockey on home ice. Before last night’s one-goal performance from Eric Comrie, the Jets had allowed 31 goals in their previous eight games.

Islanders' overs at home are usually scary for me but with good lines and trends of recent play, I liked it. Winnipeg is a top three GIFT team in the league an 8-2 L10, if they open this up early, I see another one coming.
