Winnipeg Jets vs New Jersey Devils Prediction: Two Hot Offenses Collide in Newark

The Winnipeg Jets are coming off a big 7-4 home win against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night. Paul Stastny led the way with two goals, and Mark Scheifele added a goal and three assists in the wild win.

Winnipeg has had a disappointing season thus far, as they are seven points out of the last Wild Card spot. They have had a spark recently with the return of Nikolaj Ehlers, who may be one of the most underrated players in the league. In three games since returning, the Jets have scored 11 goals and Ehlers has a goal and two assists.

The Devils are on game two of a three-game homestand, they are off an impressive, come from behind win vs the Avalanche on Tuesday night. New Jersey trailed 3-0 before storming back to grab a 5-3 win. Yegor Sharangovich notched a goal and an assist, including an empty netter to seal the win. New Jersey will not make the playoffs this year, but they have plenty of young stars highlighted by Jack Hughes, who has 17 goals, 26 assists for 43 points in just 37 games played this season.

Over the last 10 games, the Devils are averaging 4.2 goals per game and the Jets are averaging 3.7 goals per game. They also have not been able to keep the puck out of their own net. During that same time, the Devils are allowing 3.7 goals per game and the Jets are allowing 3.8 goals per game. Goaltenders have not been confirmed, but both teams have gotten average to below-average netminding, Connor Hellebuyck is having an off year for the Jets as he sports a 2.97 goals-against average with a .908 save percentage. New Jersey has had injuries to the position so they have had to rely on Jon Gillies and Nico Daws, both of whom have save percentages under .906.

On the road this season, the Jets are averaging 2.62 goals per game and allowing 3.14, their power play is 18.2% and their penalty kill is 80.6%. They are bottom 10 in five on five scoring on the road with only 46 goals but they have given up the 8th most five on five goals at 61. At home this season, New Jersey Averages 3.17 goals per game while allowing 3.24 goals per game. Their home power play is 15th at 23.2% and their home penalty kill is 8th best at 80.5%. New Jersey is 12th in five on five scoring at home with 54 goals and they have given up the 4th most five on five home goals at 68.

I think the goal scoring trends continue with these teams, I don't like a total of 6.5 so I am paying some juice to get it to 6. I think the addition of Ehlers will continue to spark the Jets offense against a very leaky New Jersey defense/goaltending. The Devil's speed and tenacity will also be tough for the banged up Jets defense to handle as well.
