Colorado Avalanche vs. Detroit Red Wings Predictions: Look for Colorado To Control This One

I was really considering the Edmonton/Tampa game here for our second play but the more I dove into this spot, the more I liked the read.

Colorado is not the best hockey team in the NHL -- they are, however, undisputedly among the top three to four squads. It is undebatable, they are really a phenomenal squad. There are only a handful of teams in the league with the offensive capabilities that they possess. Watch this game and watch the precision and finesse they have in the offensive zone, more specifically when guys get inside the perimeter.

They defense was shaky at the start of the season however it has locked in and stabilized a bit behind Cale Makar and co.; their offensive prowess and pressure also alleviates a bit of that pressure for them.

I do not have any problems with Darcy Kempfer although I do believe if they Avalanche are going to win a tough playoff series this season, he may not be their guy. Tonight that does not matter though as they send out #2 netminder Pavel Francouz. To be fair, he has played rather well to this point; I do not except him to play to implode tonight however he should be good for a few.

Detroit is not all that bad when it comes to scoring at home, they are sporting a league 3.11 GF/G average which lands them 10th best. They do still concede over 3.04 GPG at home though and they are facing the second-best scoring team in the NHL; Colorado is netting 3.75 GF/G on the road this season.

Most of the time they have faced real firepower this year they have been mauled or they have turned into high-scoring affairs. Detroit has some grinders and they fight; it is not always pretty but they do play some good hockey and can bury the biscuit a bit in their own barn.

Colorado is coming off a big letdown game where they lost 4-1 to a Boston team that had their number from the get-go. I expect Colorado to be motivated tonight and look to give their backup netminder some cushion; they won the previous meeting this season 7-3.

The last thing I will leave you with is just a little rule of thumb for the Avalanche. I am not sure the exact percentage here so do not quote me, but when they win, they usually score four (or more) goals. Look into it a bit yourselves and you will see what I mean but generally, if you believe they will win, you can find great spots to attack them both.

There are a couple angles I am taking a stab at here on this one tonight. As always, best of luck to all those who tail!

We ride.
