NHL Best Bet for Monday: Don't Expect Toronto to Take the Habs Lightly

I refuse to believe the Montreal Canadiens are going to burn me again here tonight like they did last week as they upset the St. Louis Blues in a thrilling 3-2 OT victory. They then did the exact same thing to the New York Islanders as well; they will not be overlooked tonight.

The Toronto Maple Leafs look excellent this year and are well within the contenders list of my Stanley Cup power rankings. I have spoken about the talent they possess a quite a bit recently so I will not beat a dead horse, but they are lethal.

Montreal Canadiens vs. Toronto Maple Leafs Prediction

They have been one of the league’s best for quite some time but with this current group especially; they continue to not get things done in the playoffs and have been knocked out early the last five consecutive seasons. They simply have too much talent to keep wasting the opportunity to go for a Stanley Cup and it really starts now for them.

They are an excellent 32-13-3 with a +42-goal differential on the season; they are netting 3.67 GF/G on the road this season. They had a dominant 4-1 win over Pittsburgh last week however Toronto dropped a 6-3 game at home to finish the homestand. The Blues are an excellent club and had the motivation that night; they had just lost to Montreal.

The Habs have played well the last two nights and they have all the respect in the world from me; Cole Caufield, Nick Suzuki and co. are great young players in the league and are still going out there and playing the game every night fighting. That gets hard for a team that is 10-33-7 (with two of those wins coming in OT in their last two games.)

They should not have beat St. Louis last week and they were able to steal a win against New York as well; they scored first and that got them in both games, not to mention a lot of pucks bouncing their way.

Toronto should dominate, they are scoring nearly four goals a game on the road and have the best power play in the league; they will not overlook the Habs who have stolen two wins and are sporting a 3.75 GAA at home and the 5th worst PK in the league. The fact at the end of the day when It comes to this meeting is they just don’t have the horses to win this one. If Toronto wants a good seed coming out a tough Atlantic Division, they have to get their two points against one of the worst teams in hockey.

I am attacking this one a few ways; as always, best of luck to those who tail!
