The Pick Of The Day in the NHL from our hockey expert
ANALYSIS

Sippy took a night off after his six-win streak came to an end but he's back with another pick for tonight's action.

Current Record: 8-4, +5.22u

Sippy's unit system ranges from 1.0 to 3.0, with most picks at 1.5 or 2u, but he'll occasionally stray from that - usually displaying a measure of his condidence in the pick.

At Oddschecker we're committed to giving you the best picks possible and we've recruited Reddit-favorite and NHL guru Sippy47 to guide you through the best value bets around.

02/24 - Calgary Flames @ Ottawa Senators

Pick: Calgary Flames -1.5 @ -115

Stake: 1.5u

Rare puck-line pick from me today - if you guys remember from a month or so ago, I picked a puck-line once before with this same Calgary team as against the right team they can be more likely to cover the puck-line than some favorites can be to win in general. The Flames come into this one on top of the Pacific division and have won 4 straight games, outscoring opponents 16-9 in that span. They're facing a tanking Sens team that just got rid of a bunch of its core talent, and even before the moves Ottawa was at the very bottom of the league in points (Calgary has more points this season than any team except the Lightning). They're playing their third game in four days and got outscored 7-0 in back-to-back losses against New Jersey and Columbus, and have lost 3 straight and 5 of their last 6 coming into this one. They allow the 2nd-most goals in the league and I think a Flames team that scores the 2nd-most goals in the league will roll in this one especially as their defense has looked better lately, and the Sens offense has looked the opposite of productive. It's a rare opportunity when a top-two team in good form like this gets to face the worst team in the league and I'm going to seize it tonight.

David Rittich will start in goal tonight for the Flames and he's been really good away from home, posting a 2.15 GAA on the road with an 11-6 record in those games. He's won 8 of his last 11 starts with a 3.33 GAA, and I think his recent GAA is inflated by games against both the Sharks and Lightning, high-flying offenses near the top of the league. Meanwhile, Craig Anderson will start in net for the Sens and he's been horrible, losing 7 straight starts coming into this one with a 3.57 GAA in those games and I don't like his chances against the extremely fruitful Calgary offense as he's lost all 4 of his career starts against them with a 4.06 GAA in those games.
