2024 NFL Draft Prediction: Will J.J. McCarthy Go Off the Board Early in Detroit?
The 2024 NFL draft is here, and it is one filled with a lot of controversy as always. The draft is scheduled to start at 8 PM Eastern time from Detroit, Michigan, as the Bears will start the draft with the number one overall pick.
NFL DRAFT DATE, TIME, AND WHERE TO WATCH
2024 NFL DRAFT PREDICTION
Caleb Williams is the lock to go number one at this point with little to no argument otherwise. He is -100000 on FanDuel to go number one. Number two is also pretty much locked in with Jayden Daniels going to Washington, as he is -1000 or higher at nearly every book to go number two. However, from there, it gets a little shakier. There is skepticism as to who the Patriots will take, as many people believe it will be Drake Maye, but there’s also word that J.J. McCarthy may be a Patriot in the 2024 season. Maye is a pretty heavy favorite on most books to go number three overall, and I personally think Maye will go at third as well. That leaves Marvin Harrison Jr. likely going to Arizona at the number four slot. Then, we get to another controversy, as the Chargers hold the fifth pick in the draft, but most people are uncertain if they will keep their pick.
The Chargers may trade their pick, as the Vikings are looking to trade up for a quarterback, but if they don’t, I think the Chargers will take an offensive lineman. For the time being, Herbert is staying in LA and looks to be their guy, so if they do not trade their pick, it would not make sense for them to take a quarterback. That’s where my bet comes in. J.J. McCarthy has a lot of betting interest as he is being talked about more as going higher in the draft. As such, his draft position is currently sitting at 5.5 right now, and I love this to go over. You can shop for some value on this, as he is -130 to go over 5.5 on DraftKings, but +120 to go over 5.5 on FanDuel. If the Patriots take Maye, as myself and others predict, and the Chargers don’t trade their pick and take a lineman, J.J. McCarthy most likely will not be a top-five pick.
Therefore, my favorite bet on the draft is for McCarthy to be drafted at number six or later in this year’s draft. I love getting this pick at plus money as well, as McCarthy has been a popular conversation topic heading into the draft, but will still likely be a mid-to-late first-rounder.
