Milwaukee Bucks vs. Indiana Pacers Prediction
Myles Turner killed Milwaukee from three in Games 1-4, shooting 3-for-9, 3-for-6, 4-for-10, and 7-for-8, before only going 1-for-4 last game. Brook Lopez drop coverage is the main reason he’s been able to get so many open looks from three.
The reason for this dip in 3PAs can be explained by the Bucks making some adjustments. Turner came out in the first half guarded by Brook Lopez (again) and shot 1-for-3 from 3. In the second half, the Bucks opted to switch Brook Lopez off Turner and we saw more of Middleton guarding him, which led to less time spent around the perimeter and more post-ups. He went just 0-for-1 in the second half.
After the game Myles said in an interview, “In the first half I kinda spent a little too much time around the perimeter, in the second half I started to assert myself a little more, and that's just what I have to do…that’s part of a playoff series. They’re not gonna let me just keep shooting three's for the entire series.”
Doc also made a comment in a postgame interview, “But I thought taking away their 3s was huge for us tonight. They had such a big advantage on us in this series from that line and tonight I think they made one more than us. That was really important.”
This game plan clearly worked well for them and they were able to slow down the pace, which is not what Indiana is trying to do. I’m expecting them to keep a similar game plan in Game 6, and think we see Myles take six or less threes. When he does this, he’s under 2.5 threes in 61 of 68 games this season.
