Denver Nuggets vs. Minnesota Timberwolves Prop Pick: Can Karl-Anthony Towns Crash the Boards in Game 6?

The Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves travel back to Minneapolis to play in Game 6 of the second round of the Western Conference playoffs tonight. Denver has completely flipped the series on its head, as they have come back from losing the first two games to take a 3–2 lead in the series. The Timberwolves now face elimination on their home court and must win to force a Game 7 in Denver. What should we expect in this do-or-die game from the Timberwolves?

DENVER NUGGETS VS. MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES GAME 6 PREDICTION

The player I am eyeing for tonight’s matchup is Wolves big man Karl-Anthony Towns. Towns returned from his knee injury for the playoffs and was a big factor in the Wolves sweep in round one. He followed up with two good games to start the series in the Wolves' wins in Denver, before quietly putting up just 14 and 13 points in Games 3 and 4 at home, respectively. Towns must play better at home tonight in what could be the final game of the season for the Wolves if they lose. The minutes should definitely be there for Towns. He just played in the mid-20s in minutes during most of the Suns series because of his knee injury, but his minutes have ticked up, especially later in this series. He played just 31 minutes in game one but has now played 38 minutes in back-to-back games over the last two. With the Wolves facing elimination and Towns defending Jokic for much of the series, he could even play 40 minutes tonight, which will help our prop here a lot.

The bet I am taking here is for Towns to go over 7.5 rebounds. This line has already come up from 6.5 but has gone from being juiced to plus money for us, which I like even better. Towns has grabbed eight rebounds in five of nine games in the postseason so far. Towns only had six rebounds last game, but Gobert was the primary defender on Jokic, taking him one on one almost the whole game.

That did not work out well for the Wolves, as Jokic had his best game in the series, dropping 40 points and dishing out 13 assists which was easily his best offensive game of the series. Not a great look for the defensive player of the year. Instead, I expect the Wolves to go back to Towns being the primary defender on Jokic in Game 6, as it seems like he has honestly done a better job against the Nuggets workhorse. This matchup favors Towns grabbing more boards, as he will be spending a lot of time in the paint. The Wolves could even go for playing Towns heavier minutes with Naz Reid, who was the Sixth Man of the Year and brings a lot of size to help the Wolves down low. Either way, Towns has had two games with 12 rebounds in this series so far, and grabbing eight should be easily doable for him in this matchup. In two of the games he failed to hit this number in this series, the Nuggets shot well above 50% from the field. I don’t expect that with the Wolves back at home hunkering down on defense. take Towns to grab at least eight boards tonight at a very favorable price.
