Leg 1: Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Atlanta Braves Prediction
The Braves have lost their last two games, including an embarrassing loss to the White Sox yesterday. I’m willing to bet they show up at home for the start of a series against the Pirates on Friday. Pittsburgh is entering this series on a two-game win streak. Let’s sell-high on the Pirates after their two big wins against the Reds, and back the Braves in the first game of their homestand.
Charlie Morton will be making the start for Atlanta on Friday and I like his chances of limiting Pittsburgh’s success offensively. He has been very consistent for the Braves this season, and he will have the advantage on his home mound against Martin Perez coming off the IL on Friday. Perez has been solid over the last couple of seasons, but he is in a prime spot to fade in his first start back from injury.
Leg 2: Oakland Athletics vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Prediction
The Diamondbacks have lost four of their last five games and they are somehow not the coldest team entering this series with the Athletics. Oakland has struggled mightily of late. They just got swept by the Angels as they scored two or less runs in two of those three games. It won’t get any easier for Oakland on Friday as their opponent loves facing left-handed pitching.
JP Sears will be on the mound for Oakland tonight. You couldn’t ask for a better matchup for the Diamondbacks who are coming off some losses and looking for a bounce back. Arizona has caught nearly thirty cents of steam in this spot. Continue to fade the Athletics on their losing streak. Arizona gets right and starts this new series with a win on Friday.
