Yesterday, Graham Ashcraft only managed four innings of work, which forced Cincinnati to use six arms out of their bullpen. In the last two games, the Reds have gotten 12 innings from their bullpen, which leaves them pretty spent.
As the Reds' ace, I'm expecting Hunter Greene to have a long leash tonight to give bullpen some much needed rest. Greene's season high for pitches thrown in a game is 109, which is the ceiling he should be given tonight. The Arizona Diamondbacks rank 26th in wRC+ (90), 27th in batting average (.219), and 25th in isolated power (.130) against right-handed pitchers.
The biggest concern here is Greene running up his pitch count by issuing walks. He's issued nine walks in his last two outings combined, so he will try to clean up on those tonight and pound the strike zone. All things considered, this is a great spot for Hunter Greene to provide an extended outing for his ball club, which is why I'm taking the over on his 17.5 pitching outs.
