This Sunday NASCAR Cup Series heads to Las Vegas, NV for the South Point 400 race. Can we trust Daniel Suarez at the race? Phil Bobbitt answers.
ANALYSIS

NASCAR Predictions and Picks: Can We Trust Daniel Suarez at South Point 400?

We're piecing our collective hearts back together after an oh-so-close Sunday in the Cup Series. We hit on AJ Allmendinger over William Byron in the head-to-head matchup. That was an absolute no-doubter. We lost on the Tyler Reddick top 5 finish, though. He was comfortably cruising in third place in a very boring, uneventful race. Nascar decided to throw a havoc caution with six to go and all of our best-laid plans unraveled.

We get to try again, as the Cup Series heads west to turn only left this weekend around the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. It never crossed our minds to not have action on this thing, especially when the gang is in the Mecca of the gambling universe.

I got a speeding ticket during my first visit to Sin City. We had just gotten a rental car from the Harry Reid International Airport, formerly known as McCarran. As we pulled away and pointed towards Burger King, a motorcycle threw on the lights. We were literally in town for six minutes, and this officer looked like he was straight out of the movie Super Troopers or Reno 911. He may have even been a new boot goofin'. I say all that to say this, there's some speed (and unpaid tickets) in Las Vegas. If you're in town for the race, I recommend taking in some sort of entertainment. "Friends: The Unauthorized Musical" was voted the "Best New Show" by the Las Vegas Review-Journal if you're looking for a suggestion. If you're here for gambling advice, we would advise getting down on the driver nicknamed "Mi Amigo," which means "My Friend" (probably) for Sunday's race.

We decided to go with a four-race dataset consisting of the 2022 Charlotte, Kansas, Michigan, and Las Vegas races. Then we had to scroll quite a long way down the list to find Daniel Suarez when it was ranked by the average finish. Spoiler alert: it's not good. He's ranked 33rd with an average finish of 24.3. Let's get busy betting on this fella, am I right?

NASCAR Cup Series South Point 400 Prediction

2022 has been a wild ride for Mi Amigo. In Vegas earlier this year, Suarez finished dead last (37th) after a crash on lap 92. Trackhouse teammate Ross Chastain finished in third after leading 83 laps and turning 28 fasties. At Kansas, Suarez had a left rear tire go down with 19 laps to go while running in fifth place. Chastain was again third at the time and ultimately finished seventh.

Suarez suffered another tire failure from 13th position at Michigan with five laps to go. The worst result of all came from Charlotte where Suarez led 36 laps and registered 51 fasties. With 44 laps remaining, Suarez tried to squeeze in front of a charging Chase Briscoe while running fourth and was spun, ending his day.

The moral of the story is that Daniel Suarez has been fast on this track type but doesn't have the finishes to show for it. Garage mate Ross Chastain has also been very impressive. We bet on fast teammates here at @speedwaysteve2 headquarters, and this is a situation where it applies.

NASCAR Cup Series South Point 400 Picks

0.1u to win 4.1u - Daniel Suarez to outright win (+4100) (Bet $100 to win $4100)

*Odds available at FanDuel at time of publishing*

0.2u to win 4.0u - Daniel Suarez to finish as the Top Chevrolet (+2000) (Bet $100 to win $2000)

*Odds available at Draftkings at time of publishing*
