ANALYSIS

WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play Expert Picks: Our Experts' Longshot Picks

The good news is we finally got a longshot winner last week at the Valspar as Taylor Moore took home the trophy. The bad news is our golf experts weren't tailing Moore. But, this week there seems to be a favorite longshot, so we could have everyone on the right track this time around.

Regardless, this week's WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play event is a massive opportunity for us to hit a longshot pick and make up for missing last week.

Geoff Fienberg, Rick Gehman, Andy Lack, Brian Kirschner, Bradley Todd, Sam Eaton and Tom Jacobs not only give us their favorite WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play longshots for the winner but they give us a breakdown of what we can expect to see from each golfer.

There is no better way to hit big profit while betting on golf than by nailing a longshot. This week, make sure you're following our team of golf experts' WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play longshots.

Looking for the best sportsbook offers around for this week on the PGA Tour? We have over $5,00o in free bets waiting to be claimed for the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play!

WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play Longshot Picks

Geoff Fienberg: Corey Conners (+8000) (Bet $100 to collect $8,100)

Conners finished 3rd here a year ago and has shown an affinity for this Austin, Texas layout and Texas golf in general. After analyzing his draw, I found the +8000 attractive enough for me to take a chance on another big run in Austin for Corey. The Pool-A player in his group is Cam Young, who has been struggling (relative to the other pool-A players) and I can't allow myself to fear the form of Straka or Thompson who are his other group play matches. Survive group play and your +8000 ticket gets to the weekend, where we've seen some pretty random runs by in this event by golfers who'd inspire you far less than Conners, in my opinion.

Rick Gehman: Sahith Theegala (+7000) (Bet $100 to collect $7,100)

The volatile nature of Theegala's game is actually good in this format! Make a triple...who cares? That's only losing one hole. Rattle off a couple of birdies in a row and you're putting a ton of pressure on your opponent. Speaking of opponents, his group draw (Group 11) is splendid. He battles an ailing Matt Fitzpatrick and a struggling JJ Spaun. He'll need to tackle Min Woo Lee but this path is clean, making Theegala a dangerous option for a deep run.

-- Rick Gehman (@RickRunGood)

Andy Lack: Tom Hoge (+7000) (Bet $100 to collect $7,100)

Tom Hoge remains the number one iron player in this entire field, and he will always be a threat on shorter, positional, second-shot golf courses. Coming off a third-place finish at the Players Championship where he gained a whopping 8.9 strokes on approach, it’s clear that Hoge is firing with his greatest weapon right now. Ride the current form with Hoge to make a run in Austin.

Brian Kirschner: Si-Woo Kim (+8000) (Bet $100 to collect $8,100)

Although success at this course has escaped the 2017 PLAYERS Champion, there is no reason Si-Woo Kim cannot contend at Austin Country Club. Already a winner this season at the Sony Open, Si-Woo is an elite talent that has shown he can contend with the elites of the tour.

Si-Woo already has two PGA Tour victories on Pete-Dye designs and all his wins have been on shorter Bermuda tracks. Si-woo has also shown success in matchplay in other formats. Posting a 3-1 record at the 2022 Presidents Cup. Si-Woo was able to take down World #10 Justin Thomas in Sunday Singles. I think this is the year Kim makes a deep run in Austin.

Tom Jacobs: Matt Kuchar (+9000) (Bet $100 to collect $9,100)

I was tempted to go with Denny McCarthy here, as I think in the form he's in, he could emerge from his group, despite being paired with Rory McIlroy. Instead, though, I am opting for Matt Kuchar, who has finished 2nd and 3rd in this event since the move to Austin CC and has also one this event at a different venue.

Three top 12 finishes at the Fortinet, Sony Open, and Riviera this season show that Kuchar is in good enough form to play well at courses he typically enjoys, even if he is in nearing the twilight years of his career.

Austin CC is undoubtedly one of his favorite spots, as not only has he made it to the final, and won the 3rd/4th place playoff in the past, but he's also made his way out of his group on 4 out of his 5 efforts here.

He went 3-0 in his group in 2021, beating Kevin Kisner, Justin Thomas, and Louis Oosthuizen in what was clearly the 'Group of Death' and he can win a tough group this year as well, against Viktor Hovland, Chris Kirk, and Si Woo Kim.

I do think he has a tough path to victory, as if my bracket projections are anywhere close, he'd have to beat Jason Day, Jordan Spieth, and Scottie Scheffler, but when looking at his form on this golf course, I think those sort of shock victories are possible, and at 90-1 you are getting decent odds for him to do so.

Bradley Todd: Tom Hoge (+7000) (Bet $100 to collect $7,100)

After breaking through at Pebble Beach last year, Tom Hoge has shown no signs of slowing down. Most people would have written off his chances after opening with a round of 78 at the Players Championship. He fought back with rounds of 68, 62 and 70; to finish 3rd place. It was a typical Hoge display, excelling with his irons and ranking out 2nd in the field on approach. Austin Country Club is a Pete Dye design and typically these courses reward decent iron play.

Hoge ranks out 1st in shots gained approach this season which bodes well for this test. He made his debut in this event last year but finished bottom of his group after losing two, and drawing one match. He'll be better equipped this time around; looking at his group I believe he stands a brilliant chance of getting out of it. Xander Schauffele is the obvious threat, although he has failed to get out of the group stages in four attempts.

Cam Davis showed signs of life at the Players, after a horrible run of form, he has the potential to spring a surprise. Aaron Wise has looked out of sorts and is relying heavily on his putter. Tom Hoge is my pick of the bunch and at 66/1, looks an appetizing longshot this week.

Sam Eaton: Tom Hoge (+7000) (Bet $100 to collect $7,100)

Tom Hoge's one match-play outing hardly screams he's going to win the 2023 edition. However, the bracket has made him too good to leave. He's been given one of the easier groups, despite Xander Schauffele being in his four. Once he gets out of the group he's likely to face Theegala given Fitzpatrick's recent form. Then it will be McIlroy or Hatton. With Match-play it's so hard to pick a winner, but following his PLAYERS outing and the bracket, he's too hard to turn down at this price.
