The offenses have most of their personnel returning from 2021, which creates continuity and trust. FAU quarterback N'Kosi Perry's outing against Charlotte last season stands out amongst the notable stats from that game. Perry went 9/11-225-3 without committing any turnovers while adding another 26 rushing yards. This is a hyperefficient stat line that showcases how porous the 49ers' secondary played in 2021. Nine completions yielded three touchdowns and over 200 passing yards, which is massively concerning. Even worse, the Owls carried 40 times for 202 yards and two touchdowns, melting the game clock with a dominant running game. Junior running back Johnny Ford is back for the Owls and he will be joined by Big Ten transfer Marvin Scott III.

Charlotte should perform a lot better on offense in comparison to 2021, building on quarterback Chris Reynolds' previous production that resulted in completing 22-31 passes for 219 yards and a touchdown. The stain on this performance was a pair of interceptions. The run game was shut down by the Owls, who held Charlotte's running back tandem to a combined 32 carries for 77 yards. Both defenses project to be less than stellar to start the 2022 season but Florida Atlantic has too much talent along their offensive line and Charlotte's woeful defensive pass efficiency did not add enough high-caliber talent to significantly disrupt Posey or Ford. Take the Owls to cover the spread by a touchdown in a cakewalk at home to kickstart their season.
