Alex Pereira vs. Jiri Prochazka 2 Prediction: Can Prochazka Get His Revenge at UFC 303?

Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka headline the main event of UFC 303 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 28th. The two step in on short notice as Connor McGregor and Michael Chandler could not fight on this card. Thus they give birth to the light heavyweight main event title fight to take its place and save the card.

Alex Pereira vs. Jiri Prochazka 2 Prediction

Alex Pereira sports just 12 fights in MMA with a professional record of 10–2. He is now 7–1 in the UFC with his lone loss coming to Israel Adesanya in their rematch at UFC 287. While Pereira only has 12 professional MMA bouts under his résumé, he has an extensive career in glory kickboxing, where he squared off against Israel Adesanya multiple times, beating him twice overall. That kickboxing experience has made him a highly lethal MMA fighter who has knocked out five of his seven wins in the UFC.

Alex Pereira made the switch to light heavyweight after his loss to Israel Adesanya in their rematch. His debut at light heavyweight started with a win over Jan Blachowicz, followed up with his championship fight against Jiri Prochazka in their first fight back in November 2023. he followed up with a win just two months ago against Jamahal Hill at UFC 300. Pereira is now 3–0 in the light heavyweight division of the UFC.

Across from him will be the also highly lethal Jiri Prochazka. Prochazka is 30–4–1 in his professional MMA record with 29 finishes. He has 26 knockouts and three submissions with just one decision win out of his 30 wins overall.

Prochazka is a highly aggressive fighter who will almost never go to the scorecards. He has only had five UFC fights, but he is 4-1 in that time with his only loss coming to Alex Pereira. He has finished all four of his UFC wins with three of them coming in the second round and one being a crazy fifth-round submission against Glover Teixeira in the fight that gave Jiri Prochazka the light heavyweight belt.

With how aggressive both of these fighters are, it’s no surprise that the total is sitting at just 1.5 rounds. Jiri Prochazka is coming in as the +130 underdog in this fight, and I like him to upset Alex and take the belt back. Prochazka was winning in the second round of their first fight and won the first round on all three scorecards before a counter-left hook from Alex put Prochazka down.

Both fighters are coming in on short notice, but Jiri Prochazka comes into this camp healthy, while Alex suffered a toe injury and may not be 100% ready for a fight this early after his titled defense against Hill. I liked everything I saw from Jiri Prochazka in their first fight before Alex hit him with that nasty left counter. Jiri is a very aggressive fighter, and he will have to be careful, but I like him to win as the more active and pace-pushing fighter of the two given the circumstances of this fight on short notice.
