Jalen Williams was asked after the Game 3 loss about slowing down Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving and the reporter brought up PJ Washington. As he was saying this Shai Gilgeous-Alexander repeated “PJ Washington” and was shaking his head. After, he clarified, “He’s hooping. We gotta turn that water off if we wanna win the series for sure.”
Hearing this, I’d expect Shai will do a better job defending PJ Washington and help off of him less to prevent a lot of the easy looks (threes) he’s been getting. Expecting the looks to be tougher and his efficiency to decrease as a result.
PJ Washington was under in six of seven playoff games before exploding for 27 and 29 points his last two games where he shot 48 percent and 61 percent. He also is under in 28 of 38 (74%) games with Dallas. He’s been a 44 percent FG percent and 32 percent three-point percent shooter this season, which is not great, expecting some regression and tougher looks in Game 4.
