San Francisco Giants vs. Atlanta Braves Prediction: Can Logan Webb, Giants Dominate?

The Giants and Braves meet for their series closer from Truist Park tonight in Atlanta on this beautiful July 4th Independence Day. The series is a rubber match going into game three, as the Giants took game one and the Braves responded in game two yesterday. Tonight, we have a pretty good pitching matchup between Logan Webb and Charlie Morton.

San Francisco Giants vs. Atlanta Braves Prediction

Logan Webb has long been the ace of this Giants rotation as he has been the most consistent pitcher in San Francisco. Logan Webb is 6–6 on the year with a 3.12 ERA with just five home runs allowed. Webb is a specialist in getting weak contact and drawing many double plays. He is also always on top of his command, as he has just 26 walks on the season. Webb has shown a few recent flashes of poor pitching in June with two outings of 4+ earned runs. However, tonight he has a pretty good matchup against a Braves team that has been struggling against right-handed pitching.

The Braves have astonishingly been one of the worst teams against right-handed pitching as of late. they are batting .201 against right-handed pitchers over the last two weeks, which ranks third worst in the MLB. They also have a 26.8% strikeout rate against right-handed pitching during that time, which is not usual for this Braves offense. They are in a bit of a funk right now and are running into the best pitcher for the Giants in the finale tonight.

The Braves will send out Charlie Morton to the bump first. Morton is 5–4 this season with a 3.89 ERA. Morton had his best month of the season in June, sporting a 3.1 ERA in the month. While he did have a rough start against the Yankees and Nationals, he pitched three excellent quality starts against the Pirates, Rays, and A’s.

While the Braves have a scary offense on paper and have the better record this season, the Giants offense has just had a bit more bite as of late. While Logan Webb and Charlie Morton are pretty even in respective terms, Webb has just been a bit more consistent and should have the upper hand in this pitching matchup. I can’t trust this Braves offense right now, so I am taking the Giants as underdogs to take the series tonight in Atlanta.
