For this game, I’m going with a player prop that I also took yesterday and did not come through, but I believe has another great chance to hit tonight. That bet is Josh Naylor to hit a home run. The Guardians first baseman is second on the team with 20 home runs this year. Naylor has 79 games played this season, which means he is hitting a home run about every four games. He has now gone seven straight games without a home run, meaning he is more than due to hit another one out tonight. This matchup against Erick Fedde is one that will play into Josh‘s hand beautifully. Naylor has already hit a home run off Fetty before in eight career at-bats against him. Erick Fedde has struggled against left-handed batters this season, as he has given up seven of his 11 home runs to left-handed batters.
Josh Naylor has hit 15 of his 20 home runs off right-handed pitching, and he has hit 11 of his 20 home runs at home despite having just 122 at-bats at home and 171 on the road. I usually don’t look too much at splits for the time of day, but Josh Naylor‘s stick out too much to not pay attention to, as 18 of his 20 home runs this season have come in night games (just two in day games).
The weather will also be perfect for home runs tonight, as Progressive Field has the highest home run boost on the slate tonight with the wind blowing out to center field and high humidity. Hopefully, the rain will stay away from this game so they can play it out, but if not, the prop will be voided anyway. With Naylor going seven games without a home run, I think he is more than overdue tonight to hit one out against a pitcher he has already hit a home run off of before.
